Obituary for Ms. Gurtie Reardon

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance…ECCLESIASTES 3:1-4

Gurtie Bell Reardon was born on November 16, 1933 in New Zion, South Carolina to the late Reverend Eugene Reardon and Eula Lee Fleming Reardon.

She spent most of her days working as a domestic caregiver caring for loved ones and babysitting. She was a faithful member of Saint Stevens Baptist Church in Lake City, South Carolina and loved the Lord and gospel music. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking, sewing quilts and blankets, gardening, and spending time with family and friends. She was the true epitome of grace, strength, beauty and wisdom and a matriarch to so many. Her laugh was infectious and genuine and she always greeted you with a big warm smile. A hard worker and always fearless.

On the early morning of Friday, January 7th, 2022, the angels of death came to the Commander Nursing Home in Florence, South Carolina and called her from this world of pain and sorrow to a world of eternal life.

Two sisters proceeded her in death Bernice Readion and Mary Delores Redden.

She leaves to cherish two children Gracie L. Reardon of Maryland and Frederick Anthony Redden of South Carolina, two sisters Willie Mae Broadnax and Elizabeth Ann Reardon both of Washington, DC., two nieces Lillie Cassandra Redden, Agnes Virginia Burgess, and one nephew Gregory Readion, 7 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

Obituary for Catherine Hickson Beard

Mrs. Catherine Hickson Beard, daughter of the late Sam and Alice Shepard Hickson was born on August 13. 1922. She entered into eternal rest on January 8, 2022 at her residence in Timmonsville, South Carolina.

At an early age she joined Bethlehem Baptist Church where she was a member of the Senior Choir and served on the Kitchen Committee. She was member of Naomi Chapter # 93 Timmonsville, South Carolina for over 50 years and the United Order of Tents Royal Circle # 44 Timmonsville, South Carolina.

She was united in marriage to James Beard Sr. who preceded her in death.

She received her formal education in the public school system of Timmonsville South Carolina, Elite Beauty School, Orangeburg, South Carolina and Saunders Memorial School of Nursing.

She was employed at Saunders Memorial Hospital, Florence, South Carolina, Florence County Community Action Agency at Asbury Headstart Center in Timmonsville, S.C. as a Headstart Teacher, she served with the staff at Bacote Eaddy Funeral Home as Lady Attendant in Timmonsville, South Carolina and at Bethea Baptist Home. She was a member of South Carolina Association of Residential Care Homes and was the Owner and Operator of Beard Residential Care Facilities.

Those left to cherish her memories are: her daughter Emma B. (Alex) Allen; her son James ( Victoria ) Beard Jr.; daughter Catherine B. (Kenneth) McAllister; adopted children Judy Hickson, James ( Brenda) Hickson and Sarah Hickson; 9 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great grands; 1 great-great-great-grand; a devoted neighbor, Ms. Joan Lewis Gee; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Alice Shepard Hickson, 5 brothers, 5 sisters, a daughter the late Betty Beard (Cleo) Hodges, granddaughters Paula Michelle Hodges and Kenya Hodges Baker (Bennie).

The Family would like to thank Dr. Ed Behling, Shann, Debbie, Scott and the entire Mcleod Hospice Staff for their dedicated services and care of our mother during her time of illness. We will be forever grateful.

Obituary for Frank Williams

Frank “Wookie” Williams, son of the late Deacon Jimmie and Ulease Bethune Williams, was born on September 7, 1956 in Paxville. He departed his earthly life on January 6, 2022. After the passing of his parents, at a young age, Frank was received into the loving home of Josh and Pearlie Mae Hannah. Frank remained there until becoming an adult. There Frank and Ervin Hannah grew up as best friends. Frank attended the public schools of Paxville and Sumter. Frank was affectionately known as “gangster Frank”. His passion was fishing every chance he got. Frank earned his living driving truck for various companies and working as a heavy equipment operator for Jake Timmons junk yard. Frank was a member of the Joshua Baptist Church, where, for a short time, he served on the Usher Board until his health prevented him from doing so. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife, Jennifer; two brothers, Deacon Jimmie (June) Williams of Fayetteville, N. C. and Minister Ollie (Annie Mae) Hannah of Sumter; one step daughter; two step sons, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 5230 Cotton Acres Road, Sumter. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at Joshua Baptist Church, 5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Eugene G. Dennis, Pastor, officiating. The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 a. m. for viewing until time of service. The procession will leave the home at 10:30 a. m. Burial will be in the Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, 10075 Calvary Church Road, Pinewood.

Obituary for Lee David Moody

Father Lee David Moody, age 77, departed this life on Saturday, January 8, 2022, in Marion County. He was the husband of Mrs. Corrine Moddy and the father of Angela Grant, Wanda Gause, and Letrice Roberts. Graveside services are scheduled for Friday, January 14, 2022, at 2:00 pm in the Nazarene Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

In consideration of the current pandemic, the funeral services are limited to invited close family and friends, and masks are required for attendance.

Obituary for Gloria Reed

Minister Gloria Reed, age 60, departed this life on Wednesday, January 5, 2022, in Marion County. She was the mother of four children: Tremayne and Trevor McCrimmon, Shavon Reed and Shaquanah Ford; grandmother of seven: La'Niya, Kaleb, London, Tristan, Trinity, Ayden, and Trenton. She was the sister of Yvette Reed, Sharon Genwright, Darron Reed and Antonio Reed.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 2:00 pm in the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in the Centerville Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 4499 Pondersora Road, Centenary, SC 29519.

The family will receive friends at 714 Waycross Street, Marion, SC 29571.

She was the daughter of Evelyn Samuels Roberts, Johnny Roberts, and Kenny Bell (deceased), wife of James Stanley, Sr., mother of Aleasha Miles, Jaimee Stanley, Ja'Onna Stanley, and James Stanley, Jr., mother of three bonus children: Dilan Gillard, Nevaeh Gillard, and LaDarious Garner, and sister of Kendell Samuels. Funeral Services are scheduled for Friday, January 14, 2022, at the C.D. Joyner Auditorium, 161 Elizabeth Street, Marion, SC, with burial to follow in the Devotion Gardens Cemetery 2931 Highway 76, Mullins, SC 29574. Obituary for William Boone

Mr. William J Boone was born April 22, 1932, in Sumter, South Carolina, the son of the late Willie Boone and Irene Boone.

“Boone” as he was affectionately called and his late wife, Girlena White Boone were employed by the United States Postal Service in Bronx, New York, where they retired together in 1999.

Mr. William Boone accepted the Lord as his Savior as a child, but after relocating to Florence, South Carolina, he attended Salem United Methodist Church in Florence, South Carolina.

Prior to our Lord and Savior calling Boone home Sunday, January 2, 2022, He called Boone’s wife, Girlena White Boone; a daughter, Nancy Stephenson; and three sons, Terrell Boone, Gregory Boone, and Gary Boone,

He leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Janis Murdock, William Boone, Pamela Gray, Kennen Boone, Samuel Walker (Cindy), and Ronnette Walker; numerous grandchildren; great grandchildren; and great-great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Smart; two nieces, Sheila Smart and Joyce Smart; and a nephew, Robert Smart; and a host of other relatives.

Obituary for Adeline S Robinson

Adeline Shannon Robinson, daughter of the late James Shannon and Sarah H. Shannon, was born on September 23rd, 1922, in Sumter County. She departed this life on January 3, 2022 in her home in Sumter. Adeline was educated in the public schools of Sumter County, High Hills and Lincoln High. Adeline joined the church at an early age and accepted the Lord as her Savior. She was a member of High Hills Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Choir No. 2, Missionary Society, Sunday School Teacher of the Primary Class, Pastors Aide Ministry, and Sunday School Treasurer. She was employed and retired from Campbell Soup Company of Sumter, where she worked for 19 years and 10 months. After she retired, she enjoyed traveling with her friend the late Lottie Dennis to Hawaii, Canada, and a cruise to the Bahamas in addition to helping to care for her grandchildren. Adeline was kind, loving, and caring and would always be willing to provide for those in need. Adeline leaves to cherish her loving memories: nine children, Mary Bettis and Mermin (Francine) of Neptune and Asbury Park, New Jersey, Willie Robinson of Sumter, Shirley (Vince) Berkeley of Indian Land, Norman (Willie Mae) of Alamogordo, New Mexico; Barbara Grant of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Phyllis of Sumter, Bobby of Asbury Park, New Jersey; and Renee of Sumter; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, two sisters-in-law, Mamie Shannon of Baltimore, MD; and Louise Robinson of Horatio, and son-in-law John Montgomery of Hillside, NJ. Adeline was preceded in death by her loving and precious daughters, Claudette and Sarah, her husband, Willie Sr., mother, father, three brothers, and one sister. In accordance with COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home, 1755 North Kings Highway, Sumter. Graveside services will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022 – 12:00 noon at High Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 6750 Meeting House Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Donald Amis, pastor, officiating. The procession will leave the home at 11:30 a. m.

Obituary for Audrey Wilson Noble

Family was always very important to Audrey. She was devoted to her parents, Samuel and Isralee Wilson, her brothers, Sam and George, her nieces Wendi, Tracey, and Danielle, and her nephew Marcellus, as well as her Aunt Edith, Uncle Jerry, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and extended family members.

Raised in Brooklyn, NY, Audrey also made a home in her parent’s birthplace, Timmonsville, SC, where she was an active member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church. She sang in the choir, and participated in community service activities, including tutoring adults in reading. She was a member of the United Order of Tents, a national service organization of African American churchwomen.

Audrey was an avid reader and book collector. One of the challenges that the family faced whenever she moved to a new home, was planning for where she would keep her books. Whether she was reading biographies, thrillers, or romance, Audrey stayed up-to-date on the best seller list. Always outspoken, Audrey used her literary background to analyze a wide variety of subjects. She was also a music lover, and appreciated different genres, including gospel, jazz, rhythm & blues, and doo-wop.

Outlook on Life

Audrey had a consistently positive outlook on life. Although she experienced a number of health challenges over the past thirty years, she remained upbeat, and looked at the “bright side” of situations in order to adapt and move forward. Her doctors often commented that her positive attitude helped her to maintain her health status for long periods of time.

Audrey Noble was a devout Christian, who loved her family and lived her life well. Let us celebrate her life, and remember her fondly.
