Obituary for Lois Pate

Mrs. Lois Ann Cotton Pate was born March 28,1964, in Darlington County to the late Eugene Cotton and Lois Graham Cotton. Lois affectionately known as Pokey, took her rest on Friday, March 25, 2022.

Lois was educated in Darlington County public schools. She accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Hartsville Bible Baptist Church, in Hartsville, South Carolina, under the leadership of Pastor Booker T. McPhail.

Lois was an excellent cook and she enjoyed cooking, gardening, and spending time with her family. Lois had a heart of gold and was always willing to help any and everybody in doing anything. She also enjoyed making others laugh and was always the life of the party.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin “Booty” Pate; her parents, Eugene Cotton and Lois Graham Cotton; and her oldest brother, Eugene “Boy” Cotton, Jr.

Her loving memories will always be cherished by her only daughter, Carprina Pate of Darlington, South Carolina, and a special friend, James Ham of Hartsville, South Carolina; four sisters, Earline Cotton, Connie (William) Gatison, and Beverley Howard all of Hartsville, South Carolina, and Pandora (Ezekiel) Scott of Darlington, South Carolina; two brothers, Ervin Cotton and Ronnie Cotton both of Hartsville, South Carolina; three aunts, Elzenia Benjamin of Hartsville, South Carolina, Dorothy Brisbon of Aberdeen, North Carolina, and Helen Glover of Baltimore, Maryland; one great aunt, Mabel Cotton of Pinehurst, North Carolina; one uncle, Laurie Robinson of Baltimore, Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, other close family members, and friends.

Sister Jennifer Brown was 58, and departed this life Monday March 28, 2022 at her home in Mullins. She was the mother of Elijah Gurley, Jasper Gurley, Westley Gurley, Sandy Gurley, Josh Avant, Shafone Knowlin and Tatayana Knowlin, the fiance' of John Knowlin. Obituary for Preston Maurice Gerald Sr.

Brother Preston Maurice Gerald Sr. was 46, and departed this life on Monday March 28, 2022 in Marion County. He was the father of Preston Gerald Jr. , Angel Gerald and Shameira Davis, the son of Bernard Gerald and Arlene Hightower Gerald.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Door of Hope Christian Church, Marion on Wednesday April 6, 2022 at 11:00 am. He will be laid to rest at Jackson & Daughters Cemetery, Marion. Services will be live-streamed on the Jackson & McGill Facebook Page.

Obituary for Robert Paul Daniels

Robert Paul Daniels, 51, transitioned from this life on Sunday, March 27, 2022. He was born in Sumter, December 12, 1970, the son of Rovenia June Daniels Dinkins and the late Julius Daniels. He was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. Paul was an artist and could draw anything and assisted in many projects of family and friends. He was very interesting and had a very unique way of looking at the world. He had a laugh that was contagious and even if he made you angry you couldn’t stay that way. Paul will be dearly missed and left to cherish his memories are his mother, Rovenia Dinkins; sisters, Maxine Johnson (Tal Johnson, spouse), Karen Dinkins and Janella Dinkins (Marion Joshua, spouse); two brothers, Eric June and Darren Dinkins; three nephews, Tal Johnson, Jr., Nicholas Peoples and Noah Peoples; two nieces, Briana Johnson and Amelia Peoples, and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. In accordance with COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitations at the home. Viewing will be 1:00 - 6:00 p. m., Friday, in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc. The procession will leave from the home at 12:30 p. m. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Saturday, April 2, 2022, in the John Wesley Williams, Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home, Inc., 821 North Main Street, Sumter, with Minister Joe Hughes, Eulogist.

Obituary for Jimmy Ham

Mr. Jimmy Eugene Tyrone Ham was born in Darlington, SC on July 26, 1965, a son of Wilma Ross Ham and the late Theodore Ham, III. On March 26, 2022 he departed this life at Trident Medical Center in Charleston, SC at 18:53 p.m.

Jimmy received his formal education through the public school system. He was employed as a chef at Tippecanoe Place before his health decline.

Jimmy was preceded in death by: his father, Theodore Ham III; his maternal grandparents: Sandy (Bud) Ross, Jr. and Mildred Ross; his paternal grandparents: Theodore “Junius” Ham, Jr. and Eva Mae Ham.

Those left to cherish his memories: his mother and step-dad, Wilma (Thales) Newsome of Moncks Corner, SC; his children: Tyrone Ham of Atlanta, GA and Danielle (Sharon) Washington of Florence, SC; two sisters: Penny (Douglas) Reid of Atlanta, GA and Finta Ham of Florence, SC; two brothers: Timothy (Vonita) Ham of Rock Hill, SC and Craig Addison of Florence, SC; four grandchildren; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.

Obituary for Mother Annie Louise Ross Beaty

Annie Beaty was born on August 12, 1935 in Darlington, South Carolina to LeeBell and Maude Hall Ross. Annie entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 23, 2022 at her residence surrounded by her family.

She received her education in Darlington, South Carolina where she lived all of her life. Annie worked for many years as a caregiver in Darlington County.

Her interests included spending time with her family and serving the Lord. She devoted much of her time and energy to loving her entire family which not only included her blood family but her neighbors and friends as well. Annie also loved serving the Lord as she was a faithful member of Tabernacle Worship Center where she remained a member throughout her life. She was the Mother of the Church. Over the years she also served as a Choir Member, Missionary and a Pastor’s Aide under the Leadership of Bishop C. L. Johnson.

Annie “Annie Gal” Beaty is survived by her loving children: Louvenia Goodson, Lillie Mae (Jerome) Adams, Henry (Mary Lee) Ross, Shirley Love, Otis Beaty, Sammie (Barbara) Beaty, Debra B. Delane and Mary (Rodney) Frye; a daughter-in-law,Phyllis Black. Annie also had 25 grandchildren; a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly. Annie loved all of her grandchildren dearly and had a special hand in helping to raise the following: Derrick Beaty, Gregory Ross, Renata Beaty, James Ross, and Katrina Beaty Clavon. Annie was very family oriented and her family knew how much she loved them. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend was preceded in death by: her parents, LeeBell and Maude Hall Ross; her husband, Otis Beaty, Sr.; one loving son, Levern Black; her grandson, Derrick “Sleprock” Beaty and a son-in-law, Freeman Goodson. Annie also preceded all of her siblings in death: Elease (Sam) Ross-Jones, Viola (Robert) Robinson, William (Nan) Ross, Mary Ross Yokley, Leon (Daisy) Ross, LeeBell Ross Jr, Eva (Raymond) Dixon, Aline (Sam) Dixon, Martha Mae (Richard) Sheff, Wade (Margaret) Ross.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 501 Woodduck Lane, Darlington.

Obituary for "Chucky" Henry Lee Geiger, Jr.

Mr. Henry Lee Geiger, Jr. transitioned peacefully to his heavenly home on Friday, March 25, 2022, at Lexington Community Hospice House – Agape Care; surrounded by his loving family. Chucky, as he was known by many, was born June 8, 1953, in Lexington County, South Carolina. He was the beloved son of the Henry Lee and Minnie Lee Bowman Geiger, Sr.
Chucky, attended Richlex School and later became a significant part of local history when he was among the second group of African American students to integrate Irmo High School. After graduating high school in 1972, Henry furthered his education at Benedict College in Columbia, SC, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education.

Upon earning his degree, Chucky worked at the youth facility for the South Carolina Department of Mental Health. He was also a substitute teacher for Lexington/Richland School District Five. In 1981, he relocated to Dallas, Texas where he continued to teach and mentor young adults in the public school system. Additionally, he became an Administrator for the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. After returning home to Irmo, Chucky was employed with the Kroger Corporation, from which he retired after more than 25 years of dedicated service.

At an early age, Chucky accepted the Lord and joined Pleasant Spring AME Church. He served on the Usher Board, Men’s Choir, and was a delegate to various church conventions.

Chucky loved his family and friends and enjoyed spending quality time with them. He was full of life and rarely missed an opportunity to attend special events and celebrations. Later, if you were to ask him about these special occasions, his favorite response would often be, “It was Grand!! (finger snap) That’s right”. Quite the dresser and an amazing cook, a few of his favorite past times were dancing, playing spades, and reading novels. He had an extensive vocabulary to match. Chucky was a remarkable son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. He fostered friendships that have spanned decades.

Though his life here on earth has ended; memories will linger in the hearts of many whose lives he has touched.

Henry was also preceded in death by a brother, Joseph E. “Sonny” Geiger, Sr; and a nephew, Joseph E. Geiger, Jr.

Those left to cherish his precious memories are his only sister, Gussie Geiger Kennedy; two brothers, Brent (Juliet) Geiger Sr. and Charles Andre Geiger, all of Irmo, SC; nieces, Erica Geiger, Tara Geiger, and Courtney Huiett, all of Columbia, SC; nephews; Jonathan (Melanie) Geiger of West Columbia, SC; and Brent J. Geiger, Jr.; great-nephew and Godson, George “Dunkin” Cannon, Jr.; two uncles, Samuel (Rose) Geiger of Columbia, SC; and Johnny Oscar Geiger of Wallace, NC; sister-in-law, Sandra Geiger of West Columbia, SC; Godson, Quinton Carmichael; a dear cousin, Steven Sanders of Irmo, SC; along with many other loving relatives and friends, all of who join the family in sharing the grief caused by his departure, but rejoice in knowing he is now resting with the Lord.
