‘In The Pink’ Breast Cancer Awareness Walk Back In Person This October In Murrells Inlet

Hundreds of participants are expected to gather to celebrate survivors, walk the Marshwalk together and raise money for the Tidelands Health Foundation Breast Care Fund. Musical entertainment and vendors will kick off the day at 8:30 a.m. outside the Tidelands Health Cancer Care Network in Murrells Inlet, followed by the start of the event at 10 a.m. with a few words from breast surgeons Dr. Craig Brackett and Dr. Angela Mislowsky before participants walk to the Marshwalk. Coastal Structures and Robins & Morton are the presenting sponsors this year.

“We – along with many of our long-time participants - are eager and excited to get back in person for the In the Pink walk this year,” said Jessica Sasser, executive director of the Tidelands Health Foundation. “The spirit and camaraderie that emerges when we gather for this wonderful cause is energizing and heartwarming.”

The In the Pink walk is the main fundraiser for the Tidelands Health Foundation Breast Care Fund, which helps provide mammograms and other vital breast health services to those in need. The event, which has attracted as many as 1,200 participants each year, occurs every October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The past two years, the event has been held virtually to limit the spread of COVID-19 while continuing the important fundraising effort.

“Our participants, sponsors and community have provided ongoing support of In the Pink so people in need will have the breast care resources they need,” Sasser said. “We thank everyone for such tremendous support of this event through the years and look forward to gathering in person Oct. 1.”

Registration for the walk is underway at tidelandshealth.org/breastcancerwalk. Participants will receive an In the Pink T-shirt, which they are encouraged to wear to the event.

In addition to registering for the walk, participants may purchase a $5 butterfly in honor of, in memory of or in celebration of someone who is a breast cancer survivor. The Butterflies of Hope, in various shades of pink, will be displayed during the event. Those who buy a butterfly will be entered to win a gift package from the Tidelands Health Pawleys Family YMCA.
