**PPP Program Update**

A bill to move the Paycheck Protection Program application deadline from March 31 to May 31 sailed through the U.S. House of Representatives on this week, passing in a 415-3 vote that sends the legislation to the Senate for consideration.

The nearly unanimous vote came after several dozen business groups, including the AICPA, endorsed the PPP Extension Act of 2021, H.R. 1799, which extends the filing deadline for PPP applications by 60 days and provides an additional 30 days for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) to finish processing applications received by May 31.

**Healthy Workplaces Tax Credit**

I reintroduced H.R. 1944, the Healthy Workplaces Tax Credit, to help businesses reopen safely and responsibly. This legislation protects the health and wellbeing of patrons and employees. Keeping Americans safe while getting back to work is a top priority. I was joined by Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy, Congressman Darin LaHood, and Congressman Jimmy Panetta in introducing this much needed solution. This bicameral, bipartisan legislation has broad support and is endorsed by the American Action Forum, Americans for Tax Reform, National Restaurant Association, National Association of Manufacturers, and the Job Creators Network.

The Healthy Workplaces Tax Credit provides a refundable tax credit against payroll taxes for 50% of the costs incurred by the business for COVID-19 testing, personal protective equipment (PPE), disinfecting, extra cleaning, and reconfiguring workspaces to social distancing guidelines. The Healthy Workplaces Tax Credit will support businesses as they reopen by incentivizing them to take extra precautions to protect the health of patrons and employees.

The coronavirus pandemic continues to impact every American. It’s important we reconnect workers to jobs and prevent more business closures. By making it easier for everyday Americans to observe basic precautions, we can prevent people from contracting coronavirus and can grow worker and customer confidence. This will keep our workers, families, and marketplaces safe and healthy
