**Obituary of Carol LaShawn McCoy Woodbury**

Carol LaShawn McCoy Woodbury was born in Florence County on July 29, 1972, a daughter of Deacon Buford & the late Mrs. Margaret Waters. She transitioned to her new life on April 17, 2021 at McLeod Hospice House.

“Shawn,” as she was affectionately called, was educated in the public schools of Florence South Carolina, and was a 1991 graduate of Wilson High School. She completed Cosmetology School at Chris Logan Beauty College and enjoyed sharing her gift as a stylist. She was owner and operator of “Shawn’s Babies,” where she served as “a village” caring for children in Florence and surrounding areas. In addition, she was an independent sales person for Paparazzi’s Jewelry. She was previously employed with Williams Daycare, Sears, and McLeod Regional Medical Center.

“Shawn” accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior at a young age. She joined Southern Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor John McKenney and was baptized. In her youth, she served on the Sunbeam Choir, Junior Choir, Junior Usher Board, and Young Adult Choir. As she matured in her faith, she took on leadership roles and served as Director of the Mixed Choir, Youth Director, and Summer Camp Director. In addition, she volunteered with the church’s Food Bank and in any other capacity she was needed.

“Shawn” was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, family member and friend. She was lovable, kind-hearted, and faithful, while at the same time honest and straight-forward and Shawn knew how to give tough love. Shawn was an optimist and she never gave up. Shawn was always the jokester, the life of the party. When you might otherwise be crying, Shawn knew how to make you laugh. She had an unwavering faith in God and the joy of the Lord was her strength. She never complained and she never lost her praise. Shawn lived out her faith. Her presence will be missed by all who knew her—family, friends, and Facebook live.

In addition to her mother, Shawn was preceded in death by two sisters, Kimberly D. Waters and Tonya A. Williams; maternal and paternal grandparents; and mother-in-law, Deaconess Christiana J. Woodbury.
