Tidelands Health Partners With Georgetown County School District To Offer Pop-Up Vaccination Clinics For Students

The not-for-profit health system, in partnership with Georgetown County School District, will hold four vaccination clinics at local high schools over the next four weeks to administer the Pfizer vaccine to anyone 12 and older who wishes to receive it. To be vaccinated, Georgetown County School District students must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. A completed consent form also is required for anyone under 16. There is no out-of-pocket cost to receive the vaccine.

“These vaccination events will offer residents throughout Georgetown County another convenient and accessible way to get the COVID-19 vaccine,” said Gayle Resetar, chief operating officer at Tidelands Health. “Offering the vaccine at area high schools is especially convenient for those ages 12 to 15, who just became eligible last week for the Pfizer vaccine. We are eager to hit the road to take this lifesaving vaccine to those who haven’t yet been able to receive it.”

The vaccine will be offered to anyone 12 and older at the following days, times and locations:

Thursday, May 20, 4-6 p.m., Carvers Bay High School, 13002 Choppee Road, Hemingway

Thursday, May 27, 4-6 p.m., Andrews High School, 12890 County Line Road, Andrews

Thursday, June 3, 4-6 p.m., Georgetown High School, 2500 Anthuan Maybank Drive, Georgetown

Thursday, June 10, 4-6 p.m., Waccamaw High School, 2412 Kings River Road, Pawleys Island

While anyone is eligible to be vaccinated at these events, the clinics are being offered in conjunction with Tidelands Health’s annual sports physicals for student athletes at Georgetown County high schools. This is especially ideal for those ages 12 to 15 who just became eligible to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine last week when the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention authorized the extension of the vaccine to that age group.

A completed consent form, available for download at tidelandshealth.org/vaccine, is required for anyone under 16 who wishes to be vaccinated.

“We encourage parents and teens to talk about the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine,” said Dr. Lucretia Carter, pediatrics director at Tidelands Health. “While otherwise healthy teens usually don’t develop severe cases of COVID-19, they can still get sick and spread the virus to their loved ones and neighbors. And being exposed to COVID-19 could lead to a lengthy quarantine.

“Getting the COVID-19 vaccine helps protect teens and others and eliminates the need for a quarantine period after a COVID-19 exposure.”

The four high school events will offer vaccinations on a walk-in basis only. Everyone who gets the vaccine will receive an appointment for the required second dose of the Pfizer vaccine three weeks later.

In addition to the events at the high schools, Tidelands Health continues to offer the COVID-19 vaccine at its three regional vaccination sites in Georgetown, Murrells Inlet and Myrtle Beach. Appointments are available at the regional vaccination sites by scheduling online at tidelandshealth.org/vaccine or by calling 1-833-6-MYSHOT. Walk-ins are also welcome.

To date, Tidelands Health has administered more than 73,700 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
