*Obituary for Joe Louis Ellerbe*

oe Louis Ellerbe was born September 6, 1939, in Florence, SC. He was the son of the late Alease and Eugene “Money” Ellerbe. He departed this life on Saturday, July 24, 2021.

He attended the public schools of Florence County and graduated from Wilson High School.

He was employed with and retired from Merita Bakery of Florence, South Carolina. In addition, he also obtained his electrician certification from Florence-Darlington Technical College and served as a Master Electrician.

Joe Louis was an active member of the Church of Christ.

Joe Louis is preceded in death by his wife Ruth Corbitt Ellerbe; siblings, James Ellerbe, Eugene Ellerbe Jr., Willie Ellerbe, Bopete Ellerbe, Daniel Ellerbe, Hannah Spencer, Mary Jones, Allie Wanzer, Thomas Ellerbe, Evelyn Heath, Hester Luke, and Louis Johnson, and a special niece Norma Jean "Pap" Burgess.

Left to cherish his memories he leaves five sons, Nolan Corbitt of Timmonsville, SC, Vernon (Denise) Corbitt of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Joe Louis Ellerbe Jr. of Vancouver, MD, Daniel (Darnisha) Ellerbe of Quinby, SC, and Timmy (Susan) Ellerbe of Charlotte, NC; and two siblings, Moses Ellerbe of Savannah Grove and Sarah Jackson of New York. He also leaves a special nephew Leroy (Marie) Ellerbe of Florence, SC, 18 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, relatives, and friends.

*Obituary for Steven Sabb*

Mr. Steven Sabb was born September 4, 1944, in Summerton, SC to the late George and Alma Sabb, he transitioned on Thursday, July 22, 2021, after an illness.

Steven attended Manning Training School, and was formerly employed by Imperial Trucking Company of New Jersey, and was a member of Brownville’s Community Church.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers and a sister.

Left to cherish his memories includes his wife of 57 years, Mrs. Mae Frances Mack Sabb; two children, Steven Christopher Sabb and Yolanda Sabb; five grandchildren, Cheryl (William) Taylor, Shalonda (Eric) Clemmons, Isaiah Sabb, Christopher J. Sabb, and Karina Copeland; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Darryle Small of VA; special brother, Earnest Lawson of NY; two sisters, Deloris Lane of NY, and Diane (Charles) Herbert of GA; four sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

*Obituary for Joe A. Grimes*

Mr. Joe Allen Grimes better known as “Pop” was born August 11, 1941 to the late Grover Grimes and Carrie Sherrill Grimes in Statesville, North Carolina. He departed his life to return to the open arms of His Creator on Friday, July 23, 2021.

Joe received his formal education through Unity High School in Statesville, North Carolina, where he graduated in 1959, and was drafted into the United States Armed Forces. While in the Army he served as a Spec 3 truck driver.

In 1966, he ventured into Fiber Industry Salisbury Plant in Salisbury, North Carolina. In 1974, he transferred to the Palmetto Plant in Darlington, South Carolina as an Engineer and Supervisor to help get the plant up and running. He traveled to Brazil and Mexico to help with getting the plants up and running. He retired from Fiber Industries now known as Wellman after providing 55 years of service to the Company.

Joe was united in marriage to Brenda Ann Kimbrough, this union was blessed with five children.

In his free time everyone knew how much he loved to deep sea fish with his buddies and invite everyone over to partake in the feast. He was a great mechanic and enjoyed working and repairing cars for family and friends. Pop was loving, caring, outgoing, loved to dance, and very giving, and loved providing for his family like no other.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Grover Grimes and Carrie Sherrill Grimes; two brothers, Bill Grimes and Bob Grimes; a sister, Maggie Grimes Parker; a nephew, Jimmy Murdock; and a son-in-law, Keith Small.

Joe leaves to cherish his precious memories: his loving wife of 58 years, Brenda Ann Kimbrough of the home; three daughters, Durinda “Dodie” Grimes of Darlington, South Carolina, Donna Grimes Small of Darlington, South Carolina, and Joy Grimes (Craig A.) Walker of Florence, South Carolina; two sons, Jeffrey L. Pass and Stephen Pass both of Statesville, North Carolina; a sister, Dorothy G. Sturghill and a brother, Jay Grimes (Jerry Grimes) both of Statesville, North Carolina; eleven grandchildren; four great grandchildren, Brooke, Blaire, Bria, and Ariyonna, who were the apple of his eye; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and special friends.

Brother Michael Lee Furnace was 54, and departed this life Tuesday July 27, 2021 in Florence County. He was the father of Angela Furnace, the son of Curllean Godbolt Furnace.

Graveside services are scheduled to be held at Jackson & Daughters Cemetery on Tuesday August 3, 2021 at 1:00 pm.

*Obituary for Yvonne Graves Davis*

Sister Yvonne Graves Davis was 74, and departed this life Friday July 23, 2021 at her home in Mullins, SC. She was the wife of George Davis. You may visit the family at 440 Davenport Rd. Mullins, SC.

Graveside services are scheduled to be held at the Devotion Gardens Cemetery, Mullins on Saturday July 31, 2021 at 11:00 am. Services will be live-streamed on the Jackson & McGill Facebook Page.

Yvonne Graves Davis was born on August 14, 1946 in Mullins, S.C., the eighth child of the late Lawrence C. & Leona G. Graves.
She entered the world five minutes after her twin, the late Levone Graves, she is preceded in death by her aforementioned parents, twin brother, brothers Walter Graves, Lawrence Graves, Jr, and sisters Shelby Peterson and Donnella Simon.

“Sister” as she was affectionately called was a bright student with a keen attention towards mathematics during her education at Zion Elementary School. At Palmetto High School, she was a popular student athlete being a member of many school clubs, winning Miss Homecoming 1964, and hitting winning shots as “Lefty” on her basketball team. After graduation, Yvonne attended Durham Business College before settling in New York City. With her beauty queen looks, Yvonne pursued fashion modeling at various African-American showcases while working at Lord & Taylor and Macy’s .

On May 31, 1969, Yvonne married George Washington Davis, and from this union bore two children, a son, Dion Davis and a daughter, Chenique Davis. She pursued and obtained a cosmetology license while working as Lead Teller at Chase Manhattan Bank. In 1981, Yvonne started working for the United States Postal Service, working her way from a LSM operator to a Training Technician during her almost 30 years there. Yvonne helped thousands of people achieve their goals of working various positions at U.S.P.S. while receiving numerous accolades for her job performance and attendance. She retired in 2009, and moved back to Mullins, S.C. with her husband.

Yvonne was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church before following her pastor at the formation of New Jerusalem Worship Center in Jamaica, New York.

Yvonne loved to devote her time to her husband, children, grandchildren, and extended family. The bonds she had with her siblings was unparalleled, her sisters were her best friends and confidants and their cooking would always bring a crowd both familiar and non familiar to any gathering. She showed her love through her cooking with her four layer chocolate cakes and her macaroni and cheese dishes. She was also known for her fashionable flair always being impeccably dressed for all occasions from family cookouts to shopping trips to Macy’s with her sisters to any other formal event.

On the night of July 23, 2021, Yvonne entered eternal rest at home surrounded by her husband, son, and grandchildren.

Along with her husband, son & daughter, Yvonne leaves to cherish her memory, her grandchildren, Dion Davis, Jr. and Atiya Yvonne Davis, her stepdaughter Tracey Davis, her sister Earnestine Woodard, her brother Jesse Graves, her sisters in law, Jacqueline Graves, Hattie Nickerson, Neversee Davis, LaVerne Graves, Bertha Davis, her brother in law, Hoyett Simon, and a host of nieces,nephews,cousins and friends.
