Breaking Free 2021 Virtual Pee Dee Coalition’s 10th Annual Challenge To Reduce Domestic Violence

September 03, 2021

Mindful of keeping our runners, volunteers, sponsors, and staff healthy, Pee Dee Coalition will hold its 10th Annual Breaking Free event, a signature Domestic Violence Awareness Month activity, virtually in 2021.

All proceeds for Breaking Free 2021 Virtual will support the Coalition’s two shelter programs for women and children displaced by interpersonal violence. Our Emergency Safe Shelter is for women in crisis situations. Our New Beginnings Transitional Shelter provides transitional shelter for women who have been made homeless by interpersonal violence but who are no longer in crisis.

Throughout October, people from across the Pee Dee Region are invited to take steps against domestic violence by participating in one of two virtual walking challenges. The first option is the 30 Miles in One Month Challenge, which invites participants to complete 30 miles at their own pace. In the second option, the Distance Challenge, participants create personal goals, or simply put themselves to the test to log as many miles as they can throughout the month.

Challenges are available for individuals and teams. Those who compete as a team are eligible to win both individual and team recognition and prizes. In addition, a special award will be presented to the individual or team that raises the most donations, which can be facilitated with our easy-to-use personal fundraising pages on this year’s platform that can be shared via Facebook and other social media platforms.

The fee to participate is $50 for individuals and $200 for teams. All participants will receive a Breaking Free 2021 Virtual t-shirt and commemorative medal at the conclusion of the race. To register or make a donation, please visit: https://breakingfree5k15k.itsyourrace.com/

Your participation helps only helps survivors from across the region and sends a powerful message that you are taking steps to reduce Domestic Violence and make the Pee Dee region safer and more compassionate.
