About Us

For 30 years, our mission at DBS Communications has been to bring all of the Black voices in South Carolina to the people of the state, because we have always believed that, “Voiceless people are a hopeless people.” Throughout the pages of history, change has come because someone found a way to communicate that change to the masses.

Today DBS Communications has placed a communications tool in the hands of all the people of South Carolina as we introduce SCVillageVoices.com. South Carolina Village Voices is the window to the soul of South Carolina that provides daily news and information for and about the over one million Black people living in our state.

South Carolina Village Voices offers visitors a chance to reach local news stories from news sources across South Carolina by posting stories on our homepage. This gives visitors the ability to plan social and business participation by visiting our community calendar. Visitors can see the latest news in video or photo with the click of a mouse. For those seeking a job, we offer listings in our two newspapers, The Community Times and The Times Upstate or as a direct link to jobs listed on our site.

To support small businesses in South Carolina, our site provides the first and only listing of Black businesses statewide with our business directory, where black business owners can have their business listed free. We also offer a video profile of businesses in South Carolina, a profile that offers businesses the opportunity to tell their story with a three- to five-minute video that can be accessed 24/7.

“Who better to tell your story than you, the service provider? Small businesses get the same options as larger businesses at a fraction of the cost. Have you ever met someone and wanted to tell them more about your business or organization but they, or you, didn’t have the time? Now with your business profile, you can just send them to your listing in our business directory at scvillagevoices.com and they can watch your business video anytime,” said Larry D. Smith, creator of SCVillageVoices.com

A tool for our times, South Carolina Village Voices will develop as a one-stop for people looking for information and entertainment options in South Carolina’s diverse Black community. Not only will we be showing up across South Carolina to shoot your news video and photos, you can now upload these videos or photos to us at no cost. We also serve as a platform for community events when you upload your events to us.
