South Carolina’s New Dream Team To Lead Quest For Justice In Robert Junior Langley Shooting

by Staff Report

The family of Robert Junior Langley held a press conference on Wednesday, February 9th at 10:30 a.m. in front of the Georgetown County Courthouse. Langley, a 46-year-old black man, was shot and killed by a Hemingway Police officer last Sunday following a chase. SLED is currently investigating Sunday’s fatal officer-involved shooting which occured in the Pleasant Hill area of Georgetown County following a chase in Williamsburg County.

Langley’s family, their attorneys, including noted Civil Rights attorneys Sen. Gerald Malloy and Bakari Sellers, met with 15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson II and officials with the SC State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) just prior to Wednesday’s press conference.

During the press conference the family of Langley shared their memories of him as a trusted family member and friend to all. Attorney Bakari Sellers added that justice will be served in the Langley case. Sellers, along with SC State Senator Gerald Malloy, told the true story of the shooting.

Sellers said a video showed Langley taking his last breath in a shooting that shouldn’t have happened because Langley failed to stop at stop sign. The Charleston Post and Courier reported late Wednesday morning that the Hemingway police officer who shot Langley is in custody and heading to jail.

Recently Sellers and Malloy were part of a team of lawyers who received an $81 million dollar settlement for the Charleston 9 Church shooting victims.
