*Obituary for Glenn Miller*

Sunrise: Glenn Miller was born on January 19, 1956. He was the son of James and Emma Miller.

A Life Well Spent: Glenn was born in Brooklyn, New York where he grew up in the Gowanus Housing Projects Community. His early formal education began at Public School #32, Nathan Hale Junior High School and Westinghouse High School. He continued his Higher Education Studies at New York City Community College in downtown Brooklyn, N.Y. Growing up and developing in the Gowanus Community afforded Glenn the opportunity to be involved in athletics sports in basketball, football and baseball. Our brother lived an uncomplicated and simple life as he was quite social in people he met, friends and family upon his journey in life. He was an avid lover of animals, dogs and especially cats. Glenn had this enthusiasm for cinema, television dramas and Old School R & B Music. His calling in life led him on the path to and of serving others. Glenn lived his faith in a true Christian way being pro-active in the service of aiding those in need.

The Call to Serve: For more than three decades Glenn worked in the Youth and Family Services Industry and Behavioral Health Service Community.

As a young man, he worked at the Boys & Girls Club in Brooklyn, N.Y. as a youth leader in various activities involving teens with afterschool programs. This led to a Residential Manager Position at Spectrum Youth and Family Services in Burlington, Vermont assisting adolescents and young adults with Independent living skills; that ultimately assisted these clients to acclimate back into their community. Glenn made a transition to Behavioral Health Services as a Mental Health Tech and Health Care Associate in two different locations in Doylestown and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In his capacity he served and met the needs of children in crisis, assisted clients - families with support and direction navigating a crisis intervention.

Afterwards his career path led him to being Case Manager at Catholic Charities Community Services in Staten Island in New York. His duties and responsibilities entailed all the essential comprehensive details from administrative engagement through client and family involvement to ensure health and human services rendered followed strict policy guidelines.

Relocation: In 2012, Glenn relocated to Florence, South Carolina the birthplace and initial home of his parents. As the Servant he was, he continued the quintessential career work he performed over the course of his adult life. He had maintained his call to serve others through the capacities mentioned above.

During the latter stage of his career in Behavioral Health Community Services which re-directed him to home care client support. Where he assisted individuals with home care support. This was more personal and one to one service orientated. His passion and humanity for this profound service was on full display demonstrating the embodiment of who he is. One of Glenn’s home care clients shared different political views, different background and different ethnicities from him. Nonetheless, Glenn’s call to service didn’t deter him from providing loving care and compassion for this human being. Apparently, it was mutual between the client’s family and Glenn.

Upon learning of Glenn’s illness and his inability to continue providing home care support for this client, there was an emotional departure of outpouring of mutual love between two different individuals. Sadly, Glenn’s ailments and illness was overbearing and he was summoned home during the early morning of March 24, 2022.

She was immersed in the Christian Community that would be her lifelong support from an early age. She accepted a job from Standard and Poors (The S&P 500) as a stenographer and would remain there until she retired and moved to Florence S.C. with her loving husband of close to 40 years, Charles M. Cox.

Ruth was blessed with a loving family. She married her best friend and lifelong partner; Charles M. Cox in 1982, in Queens N.Y. Ruth had one child from a previous marriage, Michael Bayne who she loved dearly until the Lord brought him home.

Ruth and Charles were inseparable. They loved to travel on long bus trips, try new restaurants, and meet new people. She used to go into great details about her life adventures and how different cultures amazed her.

Ruth moved to Florence S.C. shortly after retirement and quickly sought out a new church home. It was then that she found what would be her family in Christ for life and Greater St. Paul AME. Anyone who knows Ruth knows that she loves her Church. She loved the singing, watching the youth turn into young men and women, and especially the comradery with the other members. Her Church has always remained in her heart no matter what she went through.
