Obituary for Michael Hines, Sr.

Funeral Service for Mr. Michael Timothy Hines, Sr. was conducted 1:00 PM Saturday, January 23, 2021 at J. O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 South Johns Street, Florence, South Carolina. Interment followed at Sunset Memory Gardens, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

Mr. Michael Timothy Hines, Sr. was born to Reverend Mack T. Hines, Jr. and Gladys Jackson Hines on Sunday, April 18, 1976 in Florence, South Carolina.

Michael was the second son raised in Florence, South Carolina, graduated from Wilson High School Class of 1994.

He attended Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina, worked at McLeod Regional Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina, and Honda of South Carolina in Timmonsville, South Carolina.

He was member of Saint Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Mullins, South Carolina, under the leadership of his father, Reverend Dr. Mack T. Hines, Jr., where he sung on the Male Chorus.

Michael was a quiet loving young man. He loved his son, Michael Hines, Jr. and was very close to his mother, Gladys, whom he shared many intimate moments.

Michael is survived by his son, Michael T. Hines, II, his parents; two brothers, Mack T. Hines, III. (Kathryn) and Gregory Hines (Renita); his Granny, Susana Hines; a niece, Aiyana Hines; a nephew, Nycere Hines; two aunts, Susie Cannon and Bettie McNeil (Phillip); two uncles, Roosevelt Dudley (Judy) of Elizabethtown, North Carolina and Samson Hines of Florence, South Carolina; four sisters, Mya Gunter, Nsombia Gunter, Sharima Gunter, and Niambi Lacy (Jermain); and a host of cousins and friends.

Public viewing was held Friday, January 22, 2021 at J.O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 South Johns Street, Florence, South Carolina, 29506.

Obituary for Mary Smith

A Private Funeral Service for Mother Mary C. Smith was conducted 1:00 PM Thursday, January 28, 2021 at J. O. & Annette Smith Memorial Chapel, 307 South Johns Street, Florence, South Carolina. Interment followed at Aimwell Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

Mother Mary C. Smith was born July 4, 1925, in Florence County the daughter of the late Mrs. Minda Cain. She entered into eternal rest Friday, January 22, 2021 at McLeod Hospice Care Hospital after a long illness.

She attended Florence County Public School. Mother Smith, a faithful member of Aimwell Baptist Church, in Pamplico, South Carolina joined at an early age, was baptized, and later served proudly as Mother of the Church.

Mother Smith was married to the late Isaiah Smith and to this union nine children were born.

The family relocated to Trenton, New Jersey. While in New Jersey, Mother Smith was employed at the Institute of Advance Study in Princeton, New Jersey as a Domestic Technical for more than fifty years.

Mother Smith was predeceased by her mother; her husband; a sister, Lulla Bell Cain; and a brother, Johnnie Cain.

Mother Smith leaves to cherish her precious memories: four sons, Isaiah Smith, Jr., John Smith, James Smith, and Odell Smith all of Trenton, New Jersey; five daughters, Gladys Moore of Mount Holly, New Jersey, Thelma Brown-Smith of Pamplico, South Carolina, Mary Ann Saunders of Florence, South Carolina, Starlean Smith of Trenton, New Jersey, and Betty Bailey of Pamplico, South Carolina; thirty-four grandchildren; and a host of great grandchildren; nephews, nieces, other relatives, friends, and her church family.

Obituary for Ms. Tanika Latricia Scott

Ms. Tanika Latricia Scott of Effingham, SC affectionately called Niesha or Nik Nik was granted her heavenly wings on January 23, 2021.

She was born on February 13, 1977, to the late Harold Scott and Patricia Baker Scott. She was a beautiful baby girl that came into the world with a humble spirit.

Niesha was educated in the public schools of Florence County and furthered her education at Florence-Darlington Technical College where she received her Associate's Degree in Nursing.

At an early age Tanika had a love for the Lord and accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Bishop Phillip R. Glenn at Tower of Prayer Apostolic Church. She then fellowshipped with Glorious Apostolic Church, Greater Gethsemane Apostolic and then became a member of New Jerusalem Apostolic Church of Jesus at the time of her passing.

Nik Nik was a faithful employee of McLeod Regional Medical Center with 19 years of service. She served with a passion to help others on 7 West, 8 Medical, 9 Neurology and Case Management. She loved her job and her work team members became like family.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; Isiah (Lillie) Scott, Hanzel (Asalee) Baker, Edward Ellis, DC Scott, aunts; Almetris Baker and Dorothy Brockington.

Left to cherish the love and memories include; her mother, Patricia Scott, Fiance’, James F. Williams, Jr., brother, Terrence Baker, sister, Tammy Granger, nephews, Amaru Austin and LaDarrius Baker, niece raised as her daughter, Latayen Baker, and Labaysha Baker, goddaughter; Ava McCormick, aunts, Elizabeth Felder and Joyce (Linn) Wilson, uncle, Melvin (Joyce) Baker, special friends, Veronica McCormick and Ericka Brown and a host of other relatives, friends, and coworkers.

Obituary for Solean Burrell Rush

Mrs. Solean Burrell Rush, the daughter of Clyde and Ruth Burrell, was born on January 27, 1946, in Florence County, South Carolina. She departed this life on Thursday, January 21, 2021.

Solean was educated in the public schools of Florence County. She held numerous employment positions throughout the years, but her most passionate was that of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at the former Florence Convalescent Center on Clarke Rd in Florence, SC. Her love of people and the elderly was evident every day she went to work. She became friends with many of her patient’s family members and went out of her way to ensure that all their loved one’s needs were met. She was employed there until a wrist injury led to her retirement.

Solean was a member of Deliverance Tabernacle Church, under Apostle Barbara Hamlin. Her love of God and her dedication to the church was evident in her willingness to serve on the Pastor’s Aide Committee and other capacities for many years. Her positive interactions within her family, her church family, and with strangers she encountered along the way were a daily testimony of her love for Christ and her fellow man. She was also a faithful member of United Order of Tents, Ruth E. Jordan Tent #219, Timmonsville, SC.

Solean meant, fell in love with, and married Loman Rush Jr. on October 1, 1967. To their union, they added one son, Loman III, and two daughters, Karen and Tonya.

Solean was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Ruth Burrell, brothers, Clyde Jr, Nathan, and Charles; sisters, Ruby, Dorothy, Rachel, Virginia, and Roberta.

Solean is survived by her husband Loman Rush Jr, a son, Loman Rush III, daughters, Karen (Craven) Brown and Tonya Rush Dennis, and an honorary daughter, Pansy (Chris) Ezekiel; seven grandchildren, Crystal, Kelsey, Candace, Paiglyn, Dehra, Deven, and a grandson, Garrett Rush and a nephew, Ntshona Burrell whom she raised like her own, and four great-grands; a sister, Jessie (Joe) Clark, brothers-in-law, Rudolph (Mazie) Rush, and Albert Rush; sisters-in-law, Allean Kirven, Thelma Rush, Alice Rush, and Rosa (Wesley) Williams and Mary Alice Rush; godchildren, Carolyn (Craig)Gunther and Chris (Erica)Holloman and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Obituary for Thaddeus Octavius James Dargan

Thaddeus Octavius James Dargan was born on June 19, 1976, to James Dargan and Calena James Dargan in Florence, South Carolina. He passed away on January 21, 2021.

Thaddeus was affectionately known by his family and friends as just "Thadd." Thadd was a proud 1994 graduate of Wilson High School. After graduating, he attended Limestone College on a football scholarship.

At an early age, Thadd became a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church where he served at various capacities growing up. Thadd was employed with Florence District One school system at the time of his death. For years, Thadd worked in the Bingo Hall and spread joy and laughter throughout the hall. He was known for his ability to tint windows; people would flock to him for the chance for him to work on their cars

Thadd was a spirited person who loved life and adored all sports, but especially football. He was a huge Chicago Bears fan and loved the Chicago Bulls. He would defend both of his teams to the utmost. He was also fond of video games and could often be found playing games with his friends and family. Thadd was a proud Mama's Boy and he would never miss a day to check in on his mother. His mother would receive a call from him every day between 10 am to 2 pm.

Thadd will truly be missed. He is survived by his companion Takiya Rogers, by his parents Calena and James Dargan, his three sons, Kwashaun (Shavonte) Ward of Columbia SC, Chane Grant of Lilburn, GA and Shyheem Bryant, US Navy, Japan, one granddaughter Kamryn London of Columbia, SC, his two brothers, Timothy (Doretha) Dargan of Florence, SC, Jamie (Jatori) Dargan of Charleston, SC and two sisters Wanda Dargan of Charleston, SC and Sherrill Powell of Florence, Two Uncles, Larry (Brenda) James and Edward Dargan of Florence SC, Three Aunts, Frances (Willie) Riley and Denise (Maurice) Jackson both of Florence, SC, and Mary (Ron) Muller of Boise, Idaho, a special brother in Derrick Alexander, as well as a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Thadd is now in heaven with his grandson, Shaun Ward.

Obituary for Betty Jean McAllister Scott

Graveside Service for Mrs. Betty Jean McAllister Scott was held Monday, January 25, 2021 at North View Cemetery, Florence, South Carolina. Interment followed, directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

Mrs. Betty Jean McAllister Scott was born in Charleston, South Carolina on May 13, 1942 to the late David and Annie McAllister. She departed this life on Tuesday, January 18, 2021, at home.

She was joined in marriage to the late Moses Scott.

Mrs. Scott was a proud graduate of Wilson High School. After graduation, she relocated to New Jersey with her husband and furthered her education in college and graduated with Honors.

Upon relocation to Florence, South Carolina, she gained employment as a Culinary Technician. She worked with Florence School District One as a Cafeteria Worker for several years and later at Pee Dee Transitional Shelter, until her health declined. Mrs. Scott was a member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church in Florence, South Carolina.

She was an affectionate, caring, and loving person that inspired others to always achieve more in life. Mrs. Scott loved family gatherings, had a great love for all people, and was an avid lover of baseball especially Florence Trojans Baseball Team of the East Florence Community.

Mrs. Scott was predeceased by her husband, Moses Scott; her father, David McAllister; her mother, Annie McAllister; her step mother, Helen McAllister; six brothers, Bobby McAllister, Joseph McAllister, Bazil McAllister, Freddy McAllister, Jerome McAllister, and Ray Creighton McAllister; and three sisters, Arlene McAllister, Jessie Bell McAllister, and Dorothy Sumter.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: two sons, Ricky Scott (Dot) and Roy Scott; five daughters, Terry, Lisa (Sue), Cheryl, Teresa, and Michelle; a god daughter, Danyelle Sumter; nine grandchildren, Damon, Antwan, Kevin, Iesha, Brandon, Rondell, Tyran, Zaveon (Shandria), and Austan; numerous great grandchildren; five brothers, David (Mary) McAllister, James (Betty Lee) McAllister, Randy (Angela) McAllister, David McAllister all of Florence, South Carolina and Steven (Marilyn) McAllister of Atlanta, Georgia; eight sisters, Alberta Eaddy, Wessie (Moses) James, Joyce (Gilbert) Simmons, Charlene Benjamin, Sharon Williams all of Florence, South Carolina, Deborah Jones of Bowie, Maryland and Mary McAllister of Fayetteville, North Carolina; and a host of other relatives and friends.
