Civil Rights Activist Wrongfully Imprisoned

May 20, 2022

Dr. Candace Brewer, the National President of The National Racial Justice Network is calling for the immediate release and exoneration of charges against Civil Rights Activist and founder of Mixed Sistaz United, Brittany Martin. Brittany was found guilty and sentenced to four years on May 16, 2022 on the charge of breach of peace high and aggravated. The jury could not decide on the five counts of threatening the life of a public official, leading to a mistrial. Brittany was arrested by the Sumter Police Department during the summer of 2020, while people around the nation we’re protesting the police killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. Brittany was charged with five counts of threatening the life of a public official and with instigating, aiding or participating in a riot. Brittany Martin was only exercising her First Amendment Right to Freedom Of Speech. A grave injustice happened in that courtroom and we’re calling on an immediate release. This could be any of us. First they approved the firing squad and now they locking up Activist for exercising their rights to free speech. We stand with Brittany Martin. If anyone would like to join with us in this fight to free Brittany, please feel free to contact me at 864-230-3292 or by email at National RacialJusticeNetwork@Gmail.com.

Brittany Martin’s sister and fellow Activist Whitney Foreman said “we were born in Peoria Illinois 11 months apart so no one knows her better than me. My sister has always been a person who cares for her community for instance if you needed clothes she will give you the shirt off her back as well as feed you so I understand why she is so passionate about the black lives matter movement. We have been getting mistreated for years and she found her voice to stand for our people as well as shelter our people in her home. Brittany who is three months pregnant is a wonderful mother of six. She raised her children on her own and no matter how hard things got she never gave up. Brittany has truly been a blessing to our community. What the system did to her was unfair and uncalled for, this is why she fought and because of her wanting better for us she lost her life to the system. How is it tthat a mother of six that feeds her community as well as shelters her community is a monster? Why does she need to be sent away from her family and her children for 4 years? To see and hear the way her children cried for her was heartbreaking. We’ve received phone calls from people that didn't even know us and they cry for Brittany. I feel this is not right. Where is the equality in that, what point did the system make? All the system did was prove our point that we need to stand and let our voices be heard. Brittany Martin is also a member of South Carolina black Democratic party she is also partnered with black voters matter and this is the reason she was a Target of this corrupt system because she knows and understand as well as exercises her voting power. To all people, let this be a reason to go and vote. We have to make changes for us and our children and we are not stopping. God is on our side and it's free Brittany Martin until Brittany Martin is free.”

Brittany Martin is a very determined woman . Caring , understanding, loving are some of the words I used to describe Brittany. She’s a woman that goes above and beyond for her beliefs and the betterment of her community. Let’s rally together and continue to strive for a better community,” said Rashad “Simba” Hilton a member and Activist of Mixed Sistaz United.
