Steven Burgess May 20, 1968 - May 18, 2022

The life of Steven Wesley Burgess began on May 20, 1968, at birth in the city of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was a father of two, a brother to five other siblings and child of Mr. Wesley and Mary E. Burgess. His mother preceded him in death.

Steven attended Myrtle Beach public schools and participated in a host of extracurricular activities. This journey throughout his education would lead to him building strong friendships with members in his community. Steven also had a passion for sports, where he played both football and basketball. After completing high school, Steven made the journey to Washington D. C. There he met the love of his life, Ms. Nicole Turner of Danville, VA. They married November 18, 1993 and shared a union that was blessed with the births and rearing of two children.

Early on before leaving for the Nation’s Capital, Steven was a member of Sandy Grove Baptist Church throughout his childhood.

Steven would embark on several careers while in the metropolitan area but found his passion for driving trucks while working with Coca Cola Corporation. There he made many new friends along the way while delivering coke products to many customers along his route. Life’s challenges would bring Steven back to the Myrtle Beach area which lead him to take on a new career as a Salad Preparer for one of the top Steak Houses in the Country.

Known for his upbeat and vibrant personality since childhood which led to many whippings from his dad, Steven turned that blessing around as an adult, by bringing laughter to those that needed it most. Unbeknownst to him, he followed in his mother’s footsteps by touching the hearts of many that would come in close contact with him. One of his many favorite quotes was (Although not Original), “I’m going to say the things that others are afraid to say.” Everyone that knew him, understood his position, and knew that it was out of love.

Since childhood, Steven had a passion for football. After his high school football career ended, he took the liberty of becoming the NFL’s biggest fan. This would lead to one of several nick names, such as “Bandwagon”. Everyone knew when the season got underway, his teams would change several times throughout the season. One thing that remain the same every year, his team would always win the Super Bowl, whoever that was going to be.

Although Steven didn’t have the monetary means to give, he gave what God allowed, and that was his time, in which he always ensured both of his kids always received the same love and care. Steven had many people help shape his life, but no one compared to his heart like his grandmother, Ms. Juanita Alston. He made it a priority to call and check on her daily.

The following remain to grow from the seeds he planted and abundantly shared and to cherish loving memories: his father Wesley Burgess, Myrtle Beach, SC; two kids Shatiqua and Steven Jr., both of Myrtle Beach, SC; five siblings, Venessia and Warren (Sherry) Page of Myrtle Beach, SC; Lisa of Fredericksburg, VA; Rainey (Rose), Upper Marlboro MD, and his favorite Jonathan (Wife) of Stafford, VA. He also leaves a host of family members such as aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other treasured relatives, and friends.
