Mary Catherine Hunt October 16, 1934 - July 7, 2022

On July 7, 2022, after a life well lived Mary Catherine Hunt departed this earth. Mary Catherine Hunt was born on October 16, 1934, to Herbert & Ida Graham in Darlington, S.C.

She graduated from Dillon High School and went on to attend Benedict College in Columbia South Carolina before falling for the love of her life the late Moses W. Hunt who she married.

After moving to New Jersey, she worked in several different capacities until she found her passion in Social Work. During this time, she resumed her educational pursuits receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Rutgers University in Newark, N.J. and a Masters Degree in Special Education from Teachers College Columbia University in New York City. For over 30 years Mary worked in leadership positions as a social worker with organizations including Catholic Charities of Newark, N.J., the State of New Jersey, Williamsburg County, and the State of South Carolina before retiring.

Mary’s faith & service to Catholicism was nurtured as a lector at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Newark, N.J. and continued when she moved to Florence at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. At St. Ann’s she served as President of the St. Ann’s Ladies Guild and she also started the Constance Cooper Scholarship Fund.

Her service to community continued outside of church and work as a proud “Pretty Girl” member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She was never shy about encouraging people young and old to embrace new experiences and face challenges head on. Mary loved attending plays, concerts as well travelling. But whatever the activity she most enjoyed it with family and friends. She was an amazing presence who inspired most who she encountered. Through the difficulties of life Mary supported all she could with what she had, while making sure to take care of herself.

She leaves to remember her life: Her sister Rometta Jenkins of Philadelphia, Pa., children Cynthia Pettis of Florence, S.C., Eric Keith Hunt (Wife Laura) of Brandon, Fl. & Karl Hunt of Owings Mills, MD. Grandchildren Khadija Williams, Elyse Brown & Danielle Pettis along with 10 Great Grandchildren, 5 Great Great Grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Her parents Herbert & Ida Graham and Moses Hunt along with five brothers predeceased her.

Frank Jones October 25, 1950 - July 7, 2022

Brother Frank Jones was 71, and departed this life Thursday July 7, 2022 in Marion County.

Memorial services are scheduled to be held at the CD Joyner Auditorium on Friday July 15, 2022 at 1:00 pm. Services will be live-streamed on the Jackson & McGill Facebook Page.

James E. Cabbagestalk August 2, 1950 - July 10, 2022

James Edward Cabbagestalk, son of the late Paul and Robina Dixon Cabbagestalk was born on August 2, 1950 in Sumter. He departed this life on Sunday, July 10, 2022 at Carriage House of Sumter. James received his formal education in Sumter County Public Schools at Moore Elementary and Lincoln High School. James was baptized at Reid Chapel A. M. E. Church at an early age and as an adult he became a member of Mechanicsville United Methodist Church. James was united in Holy Matrimony to Delores Hodge on November 28, 1970, and to this union one son, Frederick L. Cabbagestalk, aka Minister BL Shabazz was born.

James served in the Vietnam War before returning to New Jersey to work for the U. S. Metals Refining Company. He was also employed by Davis Plumbing of Sumter. Those left to cherish James’ memories are: his loving wife, Delores Hodge; his son, Minister BL Shabazz; a step-son, Cederick Humes, all of Sumter; three grandsons, Jacquard Grinnell of McAllen, Texas, Ehrick Cabbagestalk of Columbia, and Jaylin McFadden of Salters; a great-granddaughter, Maliyah M. Grinnell of McAllen, Texas; three sisters, Reverend Roberta C. Josey, Juanita C. (Matt) Joe and Robina C. (Charles) Richardson, all of Sumter; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. James was preceded in death by three brothers, Leroy Cabbagestalk, Larry Cabbagestalk and Paul Cabbagestalk, Jr. and one sister, Eliza Ann Alston.

Funeral services will be held 1:00 p. m., Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Mechanicsville United Methodist Church, 184 Lake Ashwood Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Kenneth Middleton, Pastor, Eulogist. The procession will leave the home at 12:20 p. m. Burial will follow in the Mechanicsville United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Betty Mack Jackson March 3, 1958 - July 7, 2022

It is with heartfelt sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Mack/Jackson Family share the peaceful transition of Mrs. Betty Mack Jackson of Darlington, SC. Mrs. Jackson transitioned early Thursday morning, July 7, 2022 at her residence with her family at her side.
Celebration of Life will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 16, 2022 in Lawson Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Thurmond Bowens, Jr., Pastor of Trinity Baptist Church, Columbia, SC, officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

At the family's request there will be NO VISITATION at the residence.

Anna Mae McGee Muldrow March 22, 1932 - July 6, 2022

Mrs. Anna Mae McGee Muldrow departed this life on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at her home. Born in Sumter County on March 22, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Gibson and Anna Dell Rogers McGee. She was a loving and caring wife to her husband, Joe Muldrow, who preceded her in death. She attended the public schools of Sumter County and worked as a sales clerk at K-Mart for many years before retiring. She attended Quinn Chapel A. M. E. Church, where she served as President of the Stewardess Board, a member of the Usher Board, Trustee Board and served as secretary of the Women Missionary Society for a number of years. She was a quiet, patient person who loved the Lord, who cared for and visited numerous persons as long as she was able.

She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted and loving daughter, Ruth, of the home; her sons, Joseph W. (Allesia) of Jacksonville, N. C., Anthony (Alice) of Greensboro, N. C., Alonzo (Michelle) of Mt. Pleasant, S. C., Melvin of Cheyenne, WY; three sisters, Louise Williams and Dorothy McGee of Highland Park, N. J., Estelle (Charles) Ousley of Piscataway, N. J.; one brother, Charles (Yvonne) Smyrna, DE; sister-in-law, Dorothy Muldrow of Las Vegas, NV; twelve grandchildren; twenty seven great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Also, special and beloved nieces, Vivian Washington and Janie Pack, who were outstanding caregivers.

Johnnie Mildred Williams September 14, 1952 - July 6, 2022

Johnnie Mildred Williams was born on September 14th, 1952, in Evergreen, SC to the late George and Maize Brooks Williams. Johnnie departed her earthly life on Wednesday July 6th, 2022, at 8:05am. Johnnie went to Johnson High School in Timmonsville SC. Her hobbies include playing baseball, and spending time with her family enjoying a delicious meal. Johnnie was an active member of the Evangelistic Holiness Church and Christ Temple in Timmonsville; SC. Johnnie was a lovely woman who enjoyed making people laugh and filling them with her famous spaghetti. She was preceded in death in addition to her parents, by Missouri Williams, Eugene Williams, Brooks Williams, and Joanna Williams Sampson Williams Georgia Mae Williams-Bryd.

Those left to cherish her memories include her sons, Wendell Cooper, and Maurice Williams, her grandchildren, Kyle Walker, and Kendell Cooper; her siblings Minnie Bryant, Wardell Williams, Augustine Williams, Mary Williams, Elijah Williams; a brother-in-law Norman Bryant; sister-in-law Jennifer Williams and a special nephew Leon Williams; she also leaves, host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends. of friends.

Reverend Michael Kenneth Spears June 3, 1971 - July 7, 2022

TIME TO BE BORN: Michael Kenneth Spears was born on June 3, 1971, a son of Kenneth and the late Mary Wilds Spears.

TIME TO GROW: Michael grew up in Pamplico, South Carolina being reared in a Christian home. He attended Hannah-Pamplico High School, Pamplico, SC.

TIME TO LOVE: Michael was united in love and holy matrimony to Ms. Nicki G. Wright and together they have four children to whom he served as the protector, provider, and mentor: Diamonique, Alexis, Traci, and Rodney Grant. They are also the proud grandparents of Jamison Mikel.

TIME TO WORK: He was employed by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florence for fourteen years.

TIME TO WORSHIP AND SERVE: At an early age, Michael accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized by the late Reverend J. W. Walker at Spring Branch Baptist Church, Pamplico, SC. Later in life, he became a member of New Ebenezer Baptist Church, Florence, SC, Reverend Norman Gamble, Pastor. He acknowledged his call to the ministry and preached his initial sermon on December 14, 2003 and was licensed to preach by the Reverend Norman Gamble. On February 27, 2011, he was ordained by the Pee Dee Baptist Association under the leadership of Moderator Reverend Dr. Ralph W. Canty, Sr. He was the loving, committed teacher and pastor of the Olive Grove Baptist Church, Coward, SC, where he faithfully served since February 2011.

He was a member of the Florence Branch NAACP, a former instructor in the Youth Division with the South Carolina Congress of Christian Education and is a Certified Guardian Ad Litem for Darlington County. Presently, he was serving as Recording Secretary of the Pee Dee Missionary Baptist Association, Timmonsville, SC.

TIME TO MOURN: “My Farewell” - Survivors left to cherish the sweet memories are a loving and devoted wife, Nicki G. Spears, who was with him until the end; children, Diamonique, Alexis, Traci, and Rodney Grant; one grandson, Jamision Mikel; sisters, Jocerlyn (James) Robinson and Chiquita M. Spears; brothers, Rodney D. Spears and Zackary W. McNeil; sister-in-law, Jamesie (Stewart) Little; brother-in-law, Nicholas L. Wright, father, Kenneth (Yvonnie) Spears; aunts and uncles, James H. (Patricia) Wilds, Lillie M. Douglas, Gene W. (Alice) Wilds, Listena A. Farley, Alma B. (Johnny) Davis, Barbara A. Jones, Lishie (Ivory) Nowlin, Jocerlyn (Boice) Hardy, Odell (Joan) Spears, Benjamin Spears, and Anthony (Mary) Spears; grandparents, Kenneth (Mamie) Spears, Sr.; mother-in-law, Geraldine Wright; devoted aunt, Antoinette L. Muldrow; several nieces and nephews; best friends, Napolean (Karen) Bradford and Eric Moore; a host of many other cousins, relatives, close friends, ministerial colleagues and his beloved Olive Grove Baptist Church Family.
