Celebrating 100 Blessed Years With Mother Uneedia Deas

August 9, 2022, Mother Uneedia Deas will celebrate one hundred blessed years of life and is still holding on to God’s unchanging hand. She is a living testimony of her two favorite songs: God is a Good God, and Prayer Changes Things. God is still being praised with the patting of her feet and clapping of her hands. She is an inspiration and blessing to all her family, church family and friends.

Mother Deas was married to the late Thomas Deas, Sr. for almost 71 years. Together they raised eleven children, all of whom are blessed to celebrate with her, along with thirty-eight grandchildren, and a host of great and great-great grands. To God be the Glory!!

What attributes to your longevity?

Mother Deas attributes her long life to three main things.

1. Honoring her parents from a child and teaching her children to honor their parents.

2. Living a life as a Christian, loving people, and treating everyone with respect.

3. Living a life of prayer and believing in the power of prayer.

What significance change have you seen in your lifetime?

1. No more Colored Only and White Only signs around town.

2. No more riding in the back of the bus.

3. No more waiting all day in a separate waiting room to see the doctor.

4. My family lived in a farmhouse and farmed the land where the Super Walmart is today on South Irby Street.

5. From share cropping, living in a farmhouse to owning and living in my own house.

Anything interesting in your life you would like to share?

1. Married less than two months short of 71 years. Lost my husband at the age 94 about twelve years ago.

2. We raised eleven children, all who are still alive. I have two sons over eighty years old. The youngest child is fifty-nine. All others are between eighty and fifty-nine years old.

3. Always had a love for flowers.
