**Broom, Newell Named To 2022 CIAA Volleyball Preseason All-Conference Team**
CHARLOTTE, NC - After some terrific play last season, some well-earned honors are coming to a pair of Claflin Lady Panthers as seniors Mya Broom and Simone Newell were named to the 2022 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Preseason All-Conference Team. The honors are well deserved for the duo after finishing the 2021 season as two of the top newcomers to the CIAA.
Last season, Broom and Newell were two of the top players in the CIAA. The preseason honor is nothing new to Newell as she was a first team all-conference selection last season. She led the team in both kills (194) and digs (273). Broom was also no stranger to honors as well when she was a second team All-CIAA selection after totaling 178 kills to rank second on the team.
The student-athletes will open the 2022 season, Thursday, September 1st when the team heads to Rock Hill to take on the Clinton College Golden Bears. Fans looking for a sneak peek at the Lady Panthers are welcome to come to an exhibition tri-match featuring the Lady Panthers as well as the Allen Yellowjackets and the Benedict Tigers. The Lady Panthers will take the court at 11:00 a.m., followed by a 3:00 p.m. match against the rival Benedict Tigers.
**Pough Set To Hold Weekly Press Conference**
ORANGEBURG, SC—South Carolina State head coach Buddy Pough will start the 2022 campaign, beginning Monday (Aug. 29th ) with the annual Bulldog Football Press Conference.
The weekly press conference will be held at 12 noon, each Monday during the season in Staley Hall on the second floor in room 205 on the campus of SC State University.
Pough who is entering his 21st season at the helm, is 143-80 overall ,is the All-Time Winningest Coach in school history. This past season Pough led the Bulldogs to their first Cricket Wireless Celebration Bowl Championship with a 31-10 win over Jackson State.
South Carolina State kicks off the 2022 season on Thursday (Sept.1st) in Orlando, Florida against Central Florida in the season-opener. Kickoff time is 7 p.m.(EST) and will be televised live on ESPN+.

MEAC Football Head Coaches Media Teleconference Starts Monday
The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) will host its weekly football video conference starting on Monday, Aug. 29th at 10 a.m. (ET).
The video conference, which features the league's six head coaches, will continue weekly through Monday, Nov. 21. Each head coach will be available for a 10-minute period that includes a brief statement about the previous and upcoming games and opponents. Each session concludes with a question-and-answer session with members of the media.
Credible media outlets may access the video conference via a Zoom link that will be provided by the MEAC Office. The entire conference will be available online each Wednesday morning on www.MEACsports.com.

**Lady Panthers Picked Fifth In CIAA Preseason Predicted Order Of Finish**
CHARLOTTE, NC - The Claflin University Lady Panthers volleyball was picked to finish fifth overall in the 2022 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Volleyball Preseason Predicted Order of Finish. After shocking the conference with their terrific performance last season, the Lady Panthers won’t sneak up on anyone this season after being predicted to finish fifth overall and second in the CIAA Southern Division.
The Lady Panthers earned the fifth-place prediction after a terrific 2021 season. The team finished the season with a 15-10 overall record with an 11-5 record in CIAA play. After being picked to finish eighth in the preseason, the Lady Panthers finished the season ranked fifth overall and second in the CIAA Southern Division. After finishing the regular season ranked fifth overall, the Lady Panthers upset the fourth-seeded Virginia State Trojans to advance to the semifinal round of the 2021 CIAA Volleyball Championship Tournament.
The Lady Panthers will open the 2022 season, Thursday, September 1st when the team heads to Rock hill, South Carolina to take on the Clinton College Golden Bears. The team will open home court, Tuesday, September 6th when the team hosts the Columbia College Koalas.
Fans that want to see a sneak peek of the Lady Panthers, come out to Tullis Arena, Saturday morning when the Lady Panthers host a three-set tri-match featuring Allen and Benedict. The Lady Panthers will take the court at 11:00 a.m. against Allen and the team will return to the court against Benedict at 3:00 p.m.
