Doris Harris

November 26, 1947 - August 30, 2022

Doris Ann Harris, affectionally known as BIG D, was a caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Doris passed away on August 30, 2022 at the age of 74 after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.

She was born to the late Lazarus Jr and Julia Ham Jackson on November 26, 1947 in Florence, South Carolina. Doris moved to Woodbridge, New York at the age of 13 and graduated from Fallsburg Central High School in 1965. In the late 1960’s she then moved to Boston, Massachusetts. In 1981, she joined the armed forces and was assigned to Fort Jackson Army Base in Columbia, South Carolina. After graduating from the basic training, she was assigned to the 26th Yankee Infantry Division Support Command, in Framingham, Massachusetts, where she served honorably in the United States Army for 20 years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant. During her Military Service career, she was awarded many awards for her exemplary service for the United States Military such as “The Army Commendation Medal, The Meritorious Service Medal, The Army Achievement Medal and The Good Conduct Medal. 1, June 2003 she retired with full honors and relocated to Darlington, South Carolina In May 2005.

Doris loved spending time in the kitchen, creating delicious meals for her family. Everyone would gather around the kitchen table, especially for her delicious collard greens and potato salad. She enjoyed spending her free time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and watching Old classic westerns. She had a bold sense of fashion and her favorite song was “She’s a Bad Mama Jama”. Doris was a long time devoted member of Snow Hill Baptist Church, in Florence, South Carolina, where she served as an active member on the Usher board.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lazarus and Julia Ham Jackson; three brothers, James P. Ham, Matthew “Scubee” Jackson and Calfonia “Frick” Jackson; Two Sisters, Annie Ree Lowrey and Dorothy J. Merchant.

Left to cherish her memory are: her only child, a daughter, Marsha (Melvin) Boneparte of Darlington, South Carolina; four, very special Grandchildren, whom she raised, Shamiqua (Willie) Rainey of Darlington, South Carolina, Tawana Sade’ Boneparte of Darlington, South Carolina, Kashyma Shaunice Erica Cannady of Darlington, South Carolina and Omari Aronte’ Christopher Holmes also of Darlington, South Carolina; four great-grandchildren, who she cherished and adored, Ta’Nyah Emoni Mar’Sha Boneparte, JeTwan Lavoris James, M’Khayla Serenity Hayes and M’Khi Emanuel Rainey; an older brother, Timothy (Ida) Jackson, of Jamaica Queens, New York; two sisters-In-Law, Sarah Jackson of Manhattan, New York and Shirley Jackson of Cross, South Carolina; three very special nephews, Nathaniel Merchant of Columbia South Carolina, Aaron Jackson and Gregory Jackson, both of Boston Massachusetts; two special cousins, Woodrow (Bobby) McDaniel and Mary Jordan Robinson, both of Darlington, South Carolina; her best friend for over 30 years, who was more of a sister, Lula DeBerry, of Boston, Massachusetts; two special friends, Alma Smith and Lilly Gillard, both of Boston, Massachusetts; and a furry companion named Cooper-Rae.

Carrie Lee Brown

August 30, 1928 - September 4, 2022

Carrie Lee Brown was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world on Sunday, September 4, 2022 at the age of 94. She was born to Mike and Lucy (Burgess) Mack on August 30,1928 in Bishopville, SC.

She later relocated to Florence, SC where she made a home and raised her children. Carrie Lee loved her family. You could often find her near her stove with a warm smile and a funny story to tell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings (Willie Lee Mack, Corrine Clark, Louise Eaddy, Mattie Mae Beiln, Susanna Young, and Naomi Martin), her daughter (Irene Mack and Mary Montague), and grandchildren (Maryland Hickman and Rufus McCall).

Left to cherish her memories are her children Mack Lowery and Margie McCall, 19 great grandchildren, and 16 great great grandchildren. Along with a host of family, and friends.

Georgia Lee Clark

August 20, 1947 - September 1, 2022

Sister Georgia Clark was 74, and departed this life Thursday September 1, 2022 in Charleston. She was the mother of Tannetta, Teofilo, Tovio Clark. You may visit the family at 609 S. Withlacoochee, Marion.

Funeral services are scheduled to be held at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel on Thursday September 8, 2022 at 3:00 pm. She will be laid to rest at Jackson & Daughters Cemetery. Services will be live-streamed on then Jackson & McGill Facebook Page.

Frederick "Fred" Dennis

April 30, 1954 - September 2, 2022

Frederick “Fred” Dennis was born on April 30, 1954 to the late Mr. Willie and Mrs. Fannie Sanders Dennis. As God would have it Fred was surrounded by his wife, daughters, and oldest granddaughter when his life came to end, and he transitioned from this world. This happened on the evening of Friday, September 2, 2022 at William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center, Columbia South Carolina. Fred accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at an early age and became a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1972. After graduation Fred severed in the United State Army for three years. He also attended Columbia Commercial Jr College, where he earned his Associated Degree in Business Data Processing. After which he was employed with Dupont/Invista for 40 years. Fred leaves to celebrate his life: his loving wife, Mary Dennis; four daughters, Shameaka Demeary, Jessica Dennis, Trista (Trevon) Alston and Jackee Dennis all of Camden; seven grandchildren; one great-grandson; one bonus grandson; four sisters, Evelyn Sanders of Rembert, Mamie Dennis of Camden, Barbara Dennis and Steen M. Sanders of Wilmington, Delaware; one brother, Frank (Joanne) Dennis of Rembert; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Otha Willie Dennis, Willie Dennis Jr, Earnest Dennis, Leroy Herriott; three sisters Betty Butler, Ruth Wilder and Julia Mae Dennis, and one son-in- law, Dewayne Demeary, Sr. In accordance with the COVID 19 guidelines, the family is requesting that face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends during visitation at the home from 1:00 – 6:00 p. m., 701 Carter Lane, Camden. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a. m., Friday, September 9, 2022 at New Haven United Methodist Church, 3159 Springhill Road, Bishopville, with Rev. Anthony Taylor, Sr., pastor of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, officiating eulogist, The Remains will be placed in the church at 10:00 a. m. for viewing until time of services. The procession will leave the home at 10:20 a. m. Burial will be Monday, September 12, 2022 – 12:00 Noon, in the Fort Jackson National Cemetery. 4170 Percival Road, Columbia.

Georgia Mae "Billie" Berry Bacote

December 28, 1942 - September 3, 2022

It is with profound sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mrs. Georgia Berry Bacote of Darlington. Mrs. Bacote transitioned on Saturday, September 03, 2022 at her residence following an illness.

Celebration of Life for Mrs. Georgia Mae "Billie" Bacote will be 1:00PM on Saturday, September 10, 2022 in Morning Star Holiness Church, Apostle Edward Johnson, officiating. Interment will follow in Faith Memorial Gardens.

Visitation for relatives and friends is held at the residence, 601 Wood Duck Drive, Darlington.

Keyance Williamson

October 28, 1991 - September 3, 2022

It is with sorrow that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Williamson family announces the passing of Mr. Keyance "Von" Williamson of Conway, SC, formally of Darlington, SC. Mr. Williamson passed on Saturday, September 03, 2022 in Conway, SC.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete and plans will be shared at a later date.

Visitation is held at the residence of his mother, Mrs. Carolyn Williamson Alford, 1742 Elissa Drive, Darlington, SC.

James Ernest Matthews

July 9, 1949 - August 31, 2022

James Ernest Matthews, son of the late Lee Benbow and Mae Ola Matthews was born July 9, 1949, in Greeleyville, South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his brothers: James Matthews, Kit Matthews, and O’Neal Matthews.

He received his formal education in the public schools of Williamsburg County Training School in Greeleyville, South Carolina.

At an early age he became a member of Promise Land Baptist Church in Greeleyville, South Carolina. He later joined St. Davis Apostolic Church of Sumter, SC where he continued in his role as trustee.

He was employed by Long Lands Plantation of Salters, South Carolina for many years. He also worked with Aubrey Farms of St. George, South Carolina as heavy equipment machine operator. He begun dabbling in the world of carpentry where he evolved into a building contractor and eventually an entrepreneur, establishing Matthew Constructions where he enjoyed working into his latter days.

James was small in stature but had the biggest heart and family was everything to him. He enjoyed traveling and seeing new things.

On Wednesday, August 31, 2022, God, in His infinite wisdom called James Ernest Matthews home to eternal rest at the Medical University of South Carolina, Charleston, South Carolina.

His memory will be forever cherished by his children, his grandchildren; his siblings, special friends, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
