LaRosa Sanders

April 16, 1948 - September 10, 2022

Ms. LaRosa Narcissus Sanders was a caring mother, sister, aunt, and friend. She departed this earth on September 10, 2022, after an illness.

She was born to the late Norman Sanders, Sr. and Annie Baker Sanders on April 16, 1948.

LaRosa attended Wilson High School where she was named Miss Wilson and Miss Homecoming. She also served as a Majorette.

After graduating from high school, LaRosa pursued her dreams to become an educator. She attended North Carolina Central University, where she served on the Student Government Association, Aquatic Team, and the choir.

LaRosa was an ardent swimmer; displaying a desire to teach her siblings and others to swim. As she continued to pursue her career as an Educator, she later graduated with a Masters of Science Degree from South Carolina State University.

LaRosa’s passion as an Educator lead her to teach in South Carolina Public Schools for 40 years. She was honored with numerous awards.

LaRosa was a member of Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church, and her affiliations include Steward Board, Senior Usher Board, and Pastor’s Aid Committee.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Jonathan Samuel; a brother, Norman “Terrence” Sanders, Jr.; and a sister, Norma Jean Sanders Cobb.

She leaves to cherish precious memories: a loving sister, Jonithia Sanders Williams of Florence, South Carolina; one niece, Britley Williams of Atlanta, Georgia; two nephews, Boyce J. Williams (Bianca) of Los Angeles, California and Tyquan Felder of Richmond, Virginia; one grandnephew, Ayden Williams of Atlanta, Georgia and Los Angeles, California; one grandniece, Danaysha Felder of New Jersey; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Frances Friday Jackson

May 28, 1948 - September 10, 2022

Mrs. Frances F. Jackson, 74, entered into eternal rest and returned home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, September 10, 2022. She began her earthly journey on May 28, 1948 in Timmonsville, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late David and Josephine Friday. She was the widow of William Jackson, Jr. They shared more than twenty five years together and to this union two children were born. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Allen and Jerline F. Copeland; two brothers, Albert and Robert F. Friday.

She was educated in the public schools of Florence County where she graduated from Johnson High School in 1964. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from South Carolina State College in Orangeburg, South Carolina, in 1968. After graduating from college, she was employed by the South Carolina Department of Social Services for more than thirty years. After her retirement in 1998, she continued to serve the community as a member of Black River Healthcare’s board. She became a member of New Haven United Methodist Church at an early age, where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She served faithfully as the vice president of the United Methodist Women, was on the Pastor’s Parish Relations Committee, and enjoyed singing on the gospel choir. She loved the Lord and served him with a joyful heart.

One of her most extraordinary attributes was her willingness to help anyone in need, even if she had to go without something to help them. She made everyone she met feel like family and always had a kind word or warm smile for anyone who needed it. Her love of bowling allowed her to touch countless lives over the 25 years she participated in the senior league, TNBA, and USBC tournaments. She was a loving and dedicated mother who always put the needs of her family first.

She leaves to cherish loving memories: two sons, Mr. William Carlos (Jamie) Jackson of Dallas, TX and Mr. Samuel Tito (Louisa) Jackson of Atlanta, GA; a stepson, Mr. William Bernard (Wanda) Dubose of Oklahoma; a sister, Miss Christine V. Friday of Timmonsville; three brothers, Mr. Samuel D. Friday, Jr., Mr. Monroe A. Friday both of Timmonsville, and Mr. Harry J. (Pearline) Friday of Sumter, S.C.; five sisters-in-law, Mrs. Robbie Friday of South Carolina, Mrs. Elsie Friday of South Carolina, Mrs. Joanne Jackson Jones of Virginia, Miss Shirley Jackson of New Jersey, and Mrs. Dorothy Jackson of North Carolina; five brothers-in-law, Mr. Charles Jackson of New Jersey, Mr. Timothy(Denny) Jackson of South Carolina, Mr. Danny Jackson of South Carolina, Mr. Hubert (Janet) Jackson of North Carolina, and Mr. Raymond Byrd of South Carolina; four grandchildren (Kiara, Brian, Sam and Kate), nieces (including three who tirelessly cared for her during her illness – Miss Dianne D. Copeland, Mrs. Orbree F. (Blake) Widder, and Mrs. Joyce Jackson), nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Frances Lenora Andrews-Mellette

November 5, 1953 - September 12, 2022

Frances Lenora Andrews Mellette 68, widow of Robert Mellette and daughter of the late Barney Goins and Elease Andrews Leneau was born on November 05, 1953 in Sumter, SC. She departed this life on Monday, September 12, 2022 at Prisma Health Tuomey, Sumter, SC

Family will be receiving friends at the home of her daughter, 4915 Silo Road, Sumter, SC 29150

Emanuel Sentell Burgess

November 24, 1980 - September 6, 2022

Mr. Emanuel Sentell Burgess was born on November 24, 1980 in Florence, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Francenia Denise Burgess, and Joe Graham.

Emanuel received his education in Florence County and was employed with Lee’s Bodyshop in Lake City, South Carolina. And

was a member of Little Star Holiness Church, in Coward, South Carolina.

Emanuel loved spending time with his family and friends. Emanuel loved to have a good time and was the life of the party. Emanuel was always busy doing things and helping others in need. And had a passion for restoring his old school cars.

Reverend George William Johnson Jr. husband of Jacqueline Miller Parker Johnson 72, son of the late George Wise Johnson Sr. and Patty Elizabeth Tally Johnson was born on January 16, 1950 in Arlington, VA. He departed this life on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at his residence in Beaufort, S.C.

Public Viewing will be held on Wednesday, September 14, 2022 from 2-6pm at Job’s Mortuary. Funeral Services will be on Thursday, September 15, 2022 at 1PM at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, Sumter with Pastor Larry Weston, Officiating.

Interment will be on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 12 noon at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, SC.

Mr. Kendric Allen Arthur of Orangeburg peacefully transitioned Friday, September 9, 2022. The family will receive friends daily at 1750 Taylor Boulevard, Orangeburg S.C. between the hours of 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm (Face masks are required).

Mr. Arthur will lie in state one hour prior to services. Interment will follow in the Lawson Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in the Oates Community.
