Nothing Comes to a Sleeper but a Dream

By now all the elections have been held, and we all have to try to make some sense out of the madness that has led us to electing some of the people we've elected. Some of whom had no idea they could get elected until politics became the dirty word with so many insane connotations. Things like their personal likes do not matter. We will just hold our noses and vote for them. In any case, you could say the proverbial cat is out of the bag.

The crazies are now running the proverbial hen house. Anyone who was willing to go as far as to vote for Herschel Walker needs their head examined to see what makes them do the things they do. But then this whole thing started when someone was able to cast a vote for an individual named Trump. It appears all bets went out of the window when that happened. He helped them come to terms with their inner racists, narcissists, chauvinists, or any plain old lonney tone. Trump gave rise to the “say-anything” mentally that was at first taken as just an outsider's way of doing things. But we can all see now he was not just acting off-handed; it was the way he really was. When he made the statement about women, that was the first sign of misogyny that should have been taken as being spoken by a misogynist. But, instead, it was taken as a “boys will be boys,” kind of statement some folks are allowed to get away with making.

What makes it more confusing is while we allow him to get away with saying such things, we hold other people accountable for everything that comes out of their mouths. How can we try to hold Kanye West to such a high standard and allow the Trumps of the world to get away with saying anything? We could say the media is responsible for selecting the outrageous, but that would literally amount to blaming the unit for blowing out hot or cold air, when that is simply what it does. No, we must begin to place the blame where it belongs, and that is with each of us who say nonsensical things with impunity, not thinking about the potential harm that words can have.

We hope everyone has used their voting privileges to make their desired choices known. Kudos to those who did, and a long list of regrets to those who continue to remain in the shadows without any hope. Now might be a good time to start considering what your abdication from voting really means. It means you have become derelict in your thinking as well as your actions towards being a citizen, and that you have chosen to let someone else think and make decisions for you about how you are going to live and be represented. One thing for sure is you have not spent any time considering all that others have gone through to procure your right to vote.

So, my recommendation for you this week is that you wake up and realize that nothing comes to a sleeper but a dream. The next time something happens that you don't agree with just say ‘oh well’ and continue down your dreary road of uninterrupted doom. And please know you have let down all your fellow citizens.

Sincerely Yours, Still Waiting for The Dead to Come Alive.
