Duke Energy Awards Grant to New Alpha Community Development Corporation

Mindy Taylor of Duke Energy, Rev. L. Woodberry and Loretta Slater of New Alpha Community Development Cooperation with Duke Energy were awarded a grant of $20,000 to New Alpha’s Environmental Justice Sustainability and Training Center (currently under construction) for a green house in which vegetables, herbs, and aquaponic tank for growing fish will be constructed. The Environmental Justice Training and Sustainability Center will be located in the Maron County community of Britton's Neck.

The training will help communities that are considered food deserts and allow people to learn how to do small scale agricultural businesses, grow vegetables and herbs in small spaces for gardens as well as indoors.
