Rev. James S. Hudley, November 30, 1942 - March 16, 2023
Reverend James S. Hudley was born November 30, 1942 in Chesterfield County, South Carolina to Robert Hudley and Juanita Robinson Hudley.
He was educated in the public schools of Chesterfield County. He graduated from Longs High School in Cheraw, South Carolina in 1962. Upon graduation, he attended Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina and later attended Florence-Darlington Technical College. He enlisted in the military in 1964 and served until 1966 in the United States Army.
Reverend Hudley loved the Lord and accepted Christ at a young age. He was baptized at Bethesda Baptist Church in Society Hill, South Carolina. He began preaching at the age of 16 and was ordained by the Pee Dee Association to do the work of the gospel ministry at Calvary Baptist Church, Florence, South Carolina in 1971.
He served on the Executive Board of the Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina while Reverend Dr. James Blasingame was President, 2013 – 2018.
Reverend Hudley was the pastor of Mustard Seed Baptist Church, Bishopville, South Carolina and served his congregation until his health declined in May of 2022. During his illness, the late Reverend Ethel K. Grinkley, Associate Pastor at Mustard Seed Baptist Church, took over as Interim Pastor until her passing in February 2023.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Robert Hudley, Helen Brown and Sarah Ellen Robinson; and a niece, Shirley Ann Gillard.
Reverend Hudley is survived by his wife, Lucille Dargan Hudley of the home; three children, Byron Jerome Hudley, who everyone knows was his heart, Sabrina H. (Reginald), both of Florence, South Carolina and Samuel L. Dewitt of Society Hill, South Carolina; and one sister, Betty Hudley DeLand of Sumter, South Carlina.
Rev. Hudley was blessed with two grandchildren, Anja Re’gine Derry and Harlan Brooks Derry, whom he loved and enjoyed doing whatever he could for them. He delighted in spending time with his godchildren, Christopher Patrick Nesmith of Charlotte, North Carolina, De’Vonte Nesmith of Norfolk, Virginia and Kyley McMillion of Mount Croghan, South Carolina. He is also survived by a special nephew, Tyrus Harris of Florence, South Carolina who was a blessing to the family during his illness, a special family member, Aubra (Pert) Ellis and their children of Waterbury, Connecticut whom he held close to his heart. In addition, he is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Doris E. Daniel, July 30, 1934 - March 16, 2023
Doris Elizabeth Duggins Rodgers Daniel peacefully passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023, in Columbia, SC. She was born on July 30, 1934, in Williamston (Martin County), NC., the daughter of the late George and Leda Mae Duggins.
Doris was a good and faithful servant and church mother at Philippi Church of Christ, Disciples of Christ in Norfolk, VA until she became ill in 2016 and relocated to Nashville, TN. She retired at the age of 55 from Montgomery Ward’s department store. After retirement she spent her life serving God and her community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Leda Mae Duggins, both of her husbands, James R. Rodgers and James Thomas Daniel; her sisters, Frances Evans and Faye Stanford, and her son, Charles L. Rodgers.
She is survived by her sons, James Kenya (Kenny) Rodgers, Derwin (Mitchell) Rodgers, George A. Rodgers, Steven P. Rodgers, and their wives; her daughters, Frances Rodgers-Kilpatrick and Wanda K. Wilmore; 17 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grand daughter and an extended family which includes a host of nephews, nieces, and close friends who were all special in her heart.

Ms. Rosella Holloway Smith, December 31, 1941 - March 15, 2023
Ms. Rosella Smith of Darlington peacefully transitioned Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at McLeod Regional Medical Center.
The family will be receiving friends at 202 C. Ave., Darlington, S.C. 29532.
Celebration of life for Ms. Smith was held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at Grace Temple Apostolic Church, 598 W. Broad St., Darlington, S.C. 29532, interment will follow at Faith Memorial Gardens, Rogers Rd., Darlington, S.C. 29532
Public viewing held Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at the funeral home.

It is with heartfelt condolences that the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. and members of the Kennedy/Hickman families announce the passing of Master Avis Nashawn Kennedy of Lamar, SC. Avis transitioned on Friday, March 17, 2023 in a Columbia hospital following an illness.
Funeral service will be 3:00PM on Friday, March 24, 2023 at New Zion Baptist Church #1, 2826 Cale Yarborough Hwy, Timmonsville, SC. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.

J.T Brayboy, 77, son of the late T. J. Brayboy and Edna Mae Moore Brayboy, was born on January 9, 1946 in Lake City, SC. He departed this life on Monday, March 13, 2023 at his residence.
