Butler Academy Scholars Support Hartsville’s Great American Cleanup

Butler Academy scholars joined with dozens in Hartsville and a half-million volunteers nationwide who used Earth Day 2023 as an opportunity to help beautify America.

“This year’s local project, removing litter and debris in the neighborhoods near Pride Park, represented a chance to blend environmental stewardship and teamwork with a hands-on lesson in community service,” said Venesa Reyes, Butler Academy Vice President of Operations.

For Sophie Rhodes, a sixth grader at Butler Academy who participated, the chance to give back made perfect sense.

In Hartsville, Butler Academy teamed with the City of Hartsville, which teamed with Sonoco to coordinate this year’s project. Nationally, the Great American Cleanup is an initiative that prompts individuals to take greater responsibility for their local environment by conducting grassroots community service projects that engage volunteers, local businesses and civic leaders.
