City of Florence Proclaims Second Saturday in July Pee Dee Youth Day Initiative

The Officers, members, and Board of Directors of the Pee Dee Youth Day Initiative announce the 1st Annual Pee Dee Youth Day Initiative scheduled for Saturday, July 8, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Barnes Street Activity Center (513 Barnes Street) and City Center Farmers Market (200 Sanborn Street). The theme for the event is “Focus on Your Future.”

City of Florence Mayor Teresa Ervin presented a Resolution to Rev. Marvin Hemingway proclaiming the second Saturday in July, yearly, will be Pee Dee Youth Day Initiative Day.

Community members from Florence County, Marion County, Marlboro County, Dillon County, Darlington County, and Chesterfield County will meet weekly to further discuss the event to ensure the mission , “To provide our children and youth with support and services along with the very best opportunities to lead productive and fulfilling lives,” is demonstrated in the event as well as throughout the Pee Dee.

The youth initiative will promote a peaceful and safe living environment not only for our youths but also for their parents and their communities. Our children today face challenging circumstances and risks associated with drug, alcohol, and tobacco use, juvenile crime and delinquency, suicide, teen pregnancy, school dropout, domestic violence, sexual abuse, gang activity, bullying, broken families, and peer pressure.

Our greatest resources are our children, parents, officials, and residents of all the Pee Dee counties, and they can help make a difference with their commitment to reduce and eliminate drug use/abuse, crime, violence, brutality, illiteracy, child abuse, and other social ills from our world by setting the examples here in our state and our counties of the Pee Dee.

The Pee Dee Youth Day Initiative is event is being hosted by Mayor Teresa Ervin and the City of Florence.
