Darlington, SC — On Thursday, August 29, 2024, the Darlington Raceway became the gathering point for hundreds of participants and supporters as the 6th Annual Terrence Carraway Memorial 5K took place. The event, held at the iconic track located at 1301 Harry Byrd Highway, served as the official start to the Darlington Cook Out Southern 500 race weekend.

The 5K is a tribute to the late Sergeant Terrence Carraway, a respected member of the community who tragically lost his life in the line of duty on October 3, 2018. Each year, the memorial run brings together individuals and organizations from all over the Pee Dee region to honor his legacy.

Among the attendees were local students from Darlington High School, state troopers, EMS personnel, and members of the Darlington Sheriff’s Department. The event was not only about running but also about solidarity, with many coming simply to show their support for the Carraway family and their ongoing work to strengthen the community.

Raceway President Josh Harris addressed the crowd before the run, offering words of encouragement and reminding participants of the importance of community unity. Harris praised the Carraway Memorial 5K for being more than a race but a way for the community to come together to remember a hero and support law enforcement.

Ms. Allison Carraway, Terrence Carraway's wife, gave a heartfelt speech, expressing gratitude for the continued outpouring of love and support.

The atmosphere was electric as participants, ranging from avid runners to families walking together, took to the course that circled the historic raceway. Even those who chose not to run stood on the sidelines to cheer, showing their solidarity for the cause.

As the memorial 5K concluded, it was clear that Sergeant Carraway’s legacy continues to inspire, with the event remaining a central part of Darlington’s race weekend festivities.
