Graveside Service for Mr. Tommy Lee "Iceman" Hyman were conducted March 9, 2021 at Sunset Memory Gardens. Interment was directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

Tommy Lee “Ice Man” Hyman was born May 12, 1963, the son of the late James and Minnie Black Hyman. He departed his life on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at McLeod Regional Medical Center, Florence, South Carolina.

He was educated at Wilson High School and was a member of the Class of 1982. He was a member of the Wilson Tigers Marching Band and track team.

Tommy was a “die hard” Wilson Tiger fan and Alumni, known for his “Booyah” at each touch down score. He traveled with his brother, Roy to all the home games and most away games. If you asked Tommy, he could spout off most stats for each team and had his own rational for why “we” were going to win. He loved his children, nieces, and nephews. Tommy’s personality radiated everywhere he was.

He was proceeded in death by his parents; a sister, Mildred Hyman; and a brother, James Hyman.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughter, Tommisha L. Hyman of Darlington, South Carolina; a son, Tommy L. Hyman, Jr.; a granddaughter, Tamia Graham; a sister, Betty (Joseph) Wilson of Florence, South Carolina; a brother, Roy (Janet) Hyman of Florence, South Carolina; seven nieces, Karen, Gabrielle, Cherity, Royietta, Joquetta, Yasmeen, and Jalisa, five nephews, Roy Jr., Stanley, Chiko, Reginald, Joseph Jr.; and a host of other family members and friends.

*Obituary for Walter Douglas

Graveside Service for Mr. Walter "Sonny" Douglas was conducted March 7, 2021 at Sunset Memory Gardens, 2615 Alligator Road, Effingham, South Carolina. Interment was directed by Smith Funeral Home of Florence, LLC.

“Sonny” as he was affectionately called by family and friends, was the son of the late Willie Boyd Daniels and the late Josephine (Lacy) Douglas Seals. He was born in Florence County on July 12, 1947. He departed this life on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at McLeod Regional Medical Center.

Sonny attended the Public Schools of Florence County. He was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, where he served on the Trustee Board, until his health declined. He was also a member of Mount Pisgah Lodge #437.

Sonny was employed with many companies in Florence County. He later retired from Socar Inc. in Florence, South Carolina and served as the family and neighborhood mechanic, until his heath declined.

Sonny a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother was loved by his community.

Sonny was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Douglas; his father, Willie Boyd Daniels; his mother, Mrs. Josephine Douglas Seals; his stepfather, Mr. Lacy Seals; a daughter, LaTanya L. Douglas; a son, Bryant L. Scott; two sisters, Corine Douglas and Pasty Daniels; six brothers, Otis Douglas, Edward Douglas, Johnny Douglas and Willie Douglas. Willie Daniels and Albert Ray Daniels and three brothers-in-law, Johnny Otis Waiters, Eugene Jackson, and George Brockington, Sr.

Sonny leaves to cherish his memories: one daughter, Anita Douglas; three sons, Rodney (Tamara) Douglas, Torrey (Eshe) Douglas, and Darrell (Tiesha) Brown, Sr.; ten granddaughters, to include LaQuoyah D. Lowery, who was raised as a daughter, Bridgette Brown, Destine` Douglas, Monjalique Douglas, Lelah Douglas, Autumn Abraham, Kiersten Abraham and Kemani Dixon; eight grandsons, Darrell Brown, Jr., Nigel Scott, Jabari Smith, Hassan Brown, Carter Douglas, Channing Douglas, Qylan Glenn and Jaylin Ellerbe; three great granddaughters to include Ja’Moria Shephard, who was raised in the home, Jezzell McCoy, and A’nyla Joyner; two great grandsons, Ibin Shephard and Trell Brown; three sisters, Audrey Mae Brockington, Lena Jackson, and Hannah Gurley; three brothers, James (JC) Daniels, Lee Daniels, and Jerome (Joeanna) Daniels; one aunt, Lillian Jackson; twelve sisters-in-laws, to include one special sister-in-law, Victoria Waiters; two brothers-in-laws; three special nephews, Calvin Addison, Michael Douglas, and Daren Douglas; four special nieces, Josie Little, Joyce Taylor, Fenecia Law and Debbie Monroe; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives, church family, and dear friends.

Sammie George Hawkins, the son of the late George Samuel Hawkins and the late Edna Mae Henneghan Hawkins, was born October 15, 1961, in Florence, South Carolina. He slipped away peacefully, surrounded by his family on March 2, 2021.

At an early age, he was baptized and joined Meadow Prong Baptist Church. He was a member of the Junior Choir during his youth.

Sammie received his formal education from South Florence High School in Florence, South Carolina. He furthered his education at Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina, and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. He formally worked as one of the Maintenance Managers for The Florence Country Club for 5 years until his health declined.

During his free time, he loved to talk and socialize with his family and friends. He loved playing pool and listening to a diverse variety of music. He also loved to eat and have a good time. To know him is to love him and if you knew him well, you knew exactly how he was when surrounded amongst his loved ones.

Sammie was preceded in death by his parents; George Samuel Hawkins and Edna Mae Henneghan Hawkins; His oldest sister Glendora Hawkins Whitley; Maternal grandparents; Walter Lee Henneghan Sr. and Mattie Luvenia Myers Henneghan; Paternal grandparent; Darkis Hawkins Baker.

He leaves to cherish treasured memories: A brother Mr. Grady (Denise) Hawkins, and Mrs. Mildred (Walter) Lewis all of Florence, SC; one uncle Mr. Otis (Janice) Lovett of Waterboro, CT; five aunts, Mrs. Allie Mae Frison of Coward, SC; Mrs. Ethelean Frison of Effingham, SC; Mrs. Pecola Rollins of Maryland and Ms. Bertha Wade of Gaithersburg, MD; Mrs. Julienne (Roosevelt) Williamson of Philadelphia, PA; a special cousin/aunt, Mrs. Lula Waddell of Effingham, SC; two nephews, Henry O. Mrs. Barbara Jean Gilliard Buckner was born on May 4, 1937, in Darlington County, South Carolina to the late Kelly Jennings and Ruth Gilliard. Mrs. Buckner resided at 707 Sunnyside Road in Florence, South Carolina. After a brief illness, Mrs. Buckner transitioned from her life peacefully at Carlyle Senior Care Rehabilitation Center.

Mrs. Buckner received her formal education in Darlington County public schools and graduated in 1955 from Butler High School in Hartsville, South Carolina. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to the late Mr. Ulysses Buckner on March 11, 1961.

Mrs. Buckner was a loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ulysses Buckner, one infant, and brother, John F. Jennings.

Mrs. Buckner leaves behind to cherish her fond memories one daughter, Jennifer Dimery; two sons, Brian Buckner and Bernard (Tiffany) Buckner of Florence, SC; one sister, Jackie Green of Hartsville, SC; five grandchildren, Alvin L. Dimery II, Michael Dimery, Brianna Dimery, Erykah Buckner, and Christian Buckner all of Florence, SC; one sister-in-law, Mrs. Dorothy Davis of Islandton, SC; three brothers-in-law, David Buckner of Islandton, SC; Leroy Buckner of Aiken, SC; and Joseph Buckner of Lodge, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and sympathizing friends.

Theodore Roosevelt Stinney, (aka Teddy) was born on September 30, 1947, to the late Annie Mae and David Stinney in Florence, South Carolina. He was the fifth of nine children. Three brothers preceded him in death. On Monday morning, Teddy departed this life at MUSC Florence.

Teddy graduated from Wilson Senior High School in Florence, South Carolina in 1966 and married his “prom date” and High school Sweet Hattistine Jones. Shortly after their marriage, they relocated to New York. To this union, two children were born. Teddy was a dedicated, hardworking father and husband who had a strong work ethic. His mother passed away at an early age leaving his father with the responsibility of raising seven children. Teddy worked odd jobs to help his father make ends meet. He understood no matter how hard life can be at times, like his father, you have to always take care of your family. Teddy’s love, support, knowledge, and guidance were the foundation of his family.

Teddy landed his first job in New York City at Ideal Toy Company where he worked for years before joining the New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority, (MTA) as a Trackman. He retired from this position in 2002 and started a professional office cleaning business while pursuing his passion for gardening. Other favorite pastimes were grilling, biking, inviting friends and family over for cook-outs, and spending time with his children, family, and friends cheering for his favorite sports teams; New York Yankees, New York Jets, and the LA Lakers.

In 2007, after many years of membership with Allen Methodist Episcopal Church in Jamaica, NY, Teddy returned to his beloved hometown, Florence, S.C., and his home church, Mount Zion African Methodist Episcopal Church. As a child, Teddy’s father ensured that his children attend church/Sunday School; maintain a relationship with their church leaders and “pay their dues.” After returning to his early childhood church, Teddy served as a Trustee, Usher, and a member of the Sons of Allen.

Teddy leaves to cherish his memories, his devoted wife of --- Mrs. Hattistine Stinney; two sons, Craig Ravell Stinney, Timothy Devon Stinney, Five sisters, Elizabeth Lawson, Florida, Ella McPhatter, Florence, S.C., Gertie Brown(Isaac D. Teresa Renee McCalister was born June 6, 1973 in Williamsburg County SC. At an early age Teresa attended Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Hebrew, S.C. where she was a faithful member and song on the choir. Teresa later became a member and was baptize at Park Baptist Church in Charlotte N.C.

She graduated from Lake City High School Class of 1991. She attended Saint Augustine College in Raleigh, N.C. for three years and completed her Bachelor’s Degree in 1997 at S.C. State University in Orangeburg S.C. She moved to Charlotte, N.C in 1998 to pursue her career after receiving her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. Teresa then received her Master’s Degree in Business Management at Strayers University in Charlotte N.C.

Over the years she had various jobs such as a Care Giver for Visiting Angels Home Health Care, Manager, Project Manager, Human Resources and Debt Collections at Intel Advantage all in Charlotte, N.C. Teresa was a tax preparer and a notary which she took great pride in her work.

Teresa truly lived her life to the fullest. She loved spending time with her family and friends, cooking, traveling and just having a good time. Teresa touched many lives with her kind heart, jolly spirit and funny jokes. She will deeply be missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her.

Loved ones she leaves to cherish is her son Jarren R. McCalister Charlotte N.C. Her mother Joan M. Burgess Scranton S.C. Two sisters Cicely Burgess Charlotte N.C. and Pamela Burgess of Effingham S.C.
