Che Named HIPAA Privacy Administrator for McLeod Health

Eric Che, JD, MA, LPEC, has been named the HIPAA Privacy Administrator for McLeod Health.
In this role, Che’s duties include: managing and monitoring compliance with privacy laws; ensuring that McLeod has policies and procedures in place to adhere to state and federal privacy laws, including HIPAA; enforcing patients’ privacy rights in relation to their protected health information (PHI); investigating incidents in which a breach of PHI may have occurred and for reporting any breaches that may occur to the involved patient and the Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (OCR); responding to OCR inquiries and correspondence; and delivering training and coaching to McLeod staff related to their obligations under the HIPAA Privacy Rule to protect patients’ PHI and to report any suspected violations. 
McLeod employees are required to report any conduct believed to be a violation of the HIPAA Privacy Rule, other privacy law, or McLeod’s policies and procedures related to protecting patient PHI to the HIPAA Privacy Administrator.

Che most recently served as Director of Legal & Compliance for Thundermist Health Center in Providence, Rhode Island, where he led the development and implementation of comprehensive compliance programs, ensuring adherence to federal and state regulations. He also served as the HIPAA Officer providing training, education and conducting investigations while offering advice and counsel on privacy issues. 
Che received his Juris Doctor degree from Birmingham School of Law in Alabama. He completed a Master of Arts degree at North Central University in Scottsdale, Arizona. Che also holds a certification as a Leadership Professional in Ethics and Compliance (LPEC).
