DCSD To Again Offer Red Apple Passes To Community
August 01, 2025

The Darlington County School District (DCSD) is proud to offer the Red Apple Pass program, which allows a cardholder to attend school-sponsored athletic, music, dramatic, and/or band events held in Darlington County free of charge, except sports playoffs, championships, and special fundraisers.
To be eligible for a Red Apple Pass card, a person must be both a resident of Darlington County and at least 60 years of age or certified permanently disabled. DCSD employees are not eligible.
Citizens eligible for the Red Apple Pass program receive a plastic Red Apple Pass card featuring their picture. These plastic cards do not need to be renewed. All district schools honor the Red Apple Pass cards at school-sponsored events. To use the pass, cardholders must show their card at the gate or ticket office. They may also be asked to sign in at that time.
Individuals wishing to receive a Red Apple Pass may enroll at the district administration building at 120 E. Smith Ave. in Darlington. Please bring a state-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license. Passes are issued on the following schedule:
● Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
● Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
● Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. or 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
For the convenience of community members, the district will also visit local library branches for one day for Red Apple Passes. To enroll, Darlington County citizens must present a state-issued photo identification and, as applicable, documentation of permanent disability from the Social Security Administration. Those dates will be:
● August 1 - Hartsville Library, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
● August 8 - Lamar Library, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
● August 15 - Society Hill Library, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The school district’s Red Apple Pass program is one of the largest programs of its kind in South Carolina, with nearly 8,000 passes issued during the course of the program. The Red Apple Pass program is ongoing, with passes being non-expiring and non-transferable.
