This Far By Faith: The African American History of Marlboro County

On January 31, 2026 at 3:00 PM, author Eva Harley Chiphe is launching the first history book that chronicles the experiences of African Americans in Marlboro County, South Carolina, from 1500 to 2025. Titled “This Far By Faith: The African American History Of Marlboro County, South Carolina.”
The event will also mark the eve of Black History Month 2026. During the celebration, Chiphe will honor over 100 citizens for their dedicated contributions and love for Marlboro County. Additionally, she will donate 20% of the book's proceeds to support historical preservation projects in Marlboro County, including restoring Fisher McRae’s Blacksmith Shop, supporting the East Side School Preservation Association, creating African American exhibits at the Marlboro County Museum, Historical books for the library, and contributing to the Historical Society.
Mrs. Chiphe, a local author from Clio, South Carolina, previously published her first book, “When Love Walked the Earth: An African Myth,” in 2018. She is a retired teacher from the Marlboro County School District, specializing in Social Studies and Computer Technology. Chiphe serves as Chairman of the Marian Wright Edelman Marlboro County Public Library Board of Directors and as Missionary Ministry President at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Inc., Upsilon Sigma Omega Chapter.
The recommended attire for the event is shades of green, dressed to impress.
