What do you say about a person who has been a friend, a sister and a professional supporter for over 25 years? You say thank you Rennie Lavonne McAllister!

Thank you for sharing your special communication skills with us for over 15 years. Thank you for sharing your passion for music. Thank you for your bright smile and your concern for people from all walks of life. You were always there for a friend, or stranger in need.

The daughter of a Baptist preacher, Rennie was trained in the social graces; and believe me, she knew them all from the out house to the White House. Rennie not only knew how to set a table, but also how to address heads of state and local elected and appointed officials.

But it was the countless late nights with Rennie, and the late Bobby Ross laying out The Community Times newspaper that will always bring a smile to my face. Bobby would bring the music, and Rennie would bring the passion. Working all night was became something we all started to look forward to doing every week.

Later, I would introduce Rennie to the opportunity host her own local television show “City Talk,” after hosting a radio show for a few yeaes. The show was born out of an effort to make sure African Americans in the region had a voice on television in this community. The late Florence City Councilman Edward Robinson worked to get Florence City funding for the project. With Rennie’s inquisitive personality “City Talk” was designed for her curiousity. Rennie would go on to host that show until her death, now leaving a void in the link between leading voices in our community and the stories they have to tell.

I am saddened to hear about the loss of my friend Rennie. We worked together at The Morning News over 30 years ago. Although we didn’t see each other very much over the years since then, I will miss knowing that she is no longer in this world, always busy but with a gentle and happy spirit making us so glad to be around her! I was so blessed to know her and call her my friend! I send my heartfelt condolences to the Lunn and McAllister families.

Rennie was always thinking, planning, promoting, organizing, and elevating others. She was talented. When she authored the story, you knew it was well done. Her musical gifts lifted many souls. We pray for the peace and comfort for the family and many friends who knew and loved her. We will miss you Rennie! Thank you Lord Jesus for welcoming her home.

Rennie, what a shock you have brought to me...we never wanted to lose you, and find it hard to accept the fact you are gone. I can't begin with memories, I would have to begin with the life of everything you touched. It is so hard, but I know that the Glories and the Hallelujahs you are screaming now, makes me know you are alright! Rest in eternal peace, Rennie. I will miss you more than I ever thought. You will always be loved and thought of by me.

Rennie was a very dear friend as was the entire Lunn Family. My deepest condolences to the McAllister family and to Angie and all of the Lunn family. My prayers and thoughts are with you both.

Diana M. Murphy-Eaddy

On Monday I received a call that just turned my day upside down. I was told Renetha Lunn-McAllister, known to her family and friends as Rennie had gone home to be with the Lord. Rennie was a colleague, dear friend and sister, and will be missed by many, especially me. Rennie we shared many wonderful years, days, hours and minutes together. We spent many being all about business and others just having a good time laughing, eating and talking about the good old days. I will never forget any of them. You were one of the most intelligent, highly educated, talented, sophisticated and classiest women I knew. You were my mentor and an amazing person who I will strive to be like in many ways. As your brother, Gregory and my husband now would put it, “God broke the mold when he made you.” On behalf of the Murphy and Eaddy family we will always love and miss you. To the McAllister and Lunn family you have our deepest sympathy and we will continue to keep the families in our prayers. If you need us we are here for you!
