It is with profound sorrow the management and staff of Mitchell-Josey Funeral Home, Inc. announces the passing of Mother Pearlie Mae “Nana” McNeal of Darlington. Mother McNeal passed on Tuesday night, March 23, 2021 at her residence peacefully surrounded by her family.
Celebration of Life is 4:00pm on Saturday, March 27, 2021 in SHEREC Center, Florence. Interment will follow in Hart #2 Cemetery. Please adhere to social distancing and mask wearing for this service.

Pearlie Mae Ham McNeal, affectionally known as Nana, was born on September 25, 1931 in Darlington, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Maybell Ham. Pearlie Mae was called home to be with the Lord on March 23, 2021 while surrounded by her Children and Grandchildren. Pearlie Mae was educated in the public schools of Darlington County. She was a CNA at Bethea Retirement Home until her health declined.

Pearlie Mae was a member of Westside Temple Holiness Church under the leadership of her brother, Bishop Robert L. Ham. She later joined Divine Destiny Family Worship Center under the leadership of Pastor Russell Nelson Sr. and First Lady Ester Nelson. At Divine Destiny, she served as a Church Mother and intercessor. Pearlie Mae was blessed to be a nurturing mother, friend, and mentor. Although a very candid and outspoken woman, her compassionate personality captivated the hearts of anyone who met her. She birthed eleven children but was a mother figure to so many. Her life truly was a testament to all the love she held in her heart which has manifested in all of those who count it as an honor and privilege to have known her. She touched countless souls from near and far. She was and will always remain the epitome of Strength and Love. She truly had the characteristics of her Heavenly Father Jesus Christ.

Pearlie Mae was proceeded to eternal life by the late Willie McNeal Sr., her Mother, Maybell Ham, two brothers: Bishop Robert L. Ham and Wilson Ham Sr., Her daughter, Cathy McNeal, two sons: Lester Ham and Melvin Sansbury, her two angels: Mikease and Miyon McFarland.

Those blessed to cherish her memories and continue to live her legacy are: her seven sons: James (Mary) Ham of Florence, SC, Roy Williams of Raleigh, NC, Willie (Cassandra) McNeal of Florence, SC, Johnny McNeal of Darlington, SC, Clyde (Cynthia) McNeal of Augusta, GA, Sammie (Deshawn) McNeal of Winter Park, FL and Donald McNeal of Charlotte, NC; her two daughters: Pastor Debra McNeal (James) Bull of Florence, SC and Sonja McNeal of Darlington, SC; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Ham; granddaughters she reared as her own: LaDominique McFarland of Florence, SC, Chavonne Mabry of Florence, SC and Tia (Taurus) Sanders of Columbia, SC; god-sister, Rosa Lee McDonald ; god-daughters: Elease Suber, Dorothy Orgbon and Brenda (Jerry) Goodson of Elkins Park, PA. a special daughter, Renee McNeal; special caregiver, Mary Jett; special niece, Pamela Ham; a special cousin, Margie (David) Jett. Last but not least, 28 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren and more than 15 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation for relatives and friends will be held at the residence, 517 Copeland Drive, Darlington.
