The Florence Democracy Center, New Alpha Community Development Corporation, and The Whitney M. Slater Foundation are held a joint press conference on June 8, 2021 at 10:00 am est. The location for the conference was be at Kingdom Living Temple, 705 S Irby St., Florence SC 29501.

The Florence Democracy Center will be announcing its Get Out To Vote campaign for 2021 – 2022. The Democracy Center director, Anthony Hall says, “Our non partisan efforts are to ensure that as many Pee Dee residents as possible turn out to vote in all upcoming elections. With our recovery from the pandemic and the great need to improve situations by electing policy makers is of the utmost importance.”

Mr. Hall shared various approaches that will be utilized in the Pee Dee Region. Loretta Slater, the executive director of The Whitney M. Slater Foundation will be discussing the Moving From Surviving to Thriving eight month webinar series, which includes public health experts, medical professional, and community organizers who will be discussing how to deal with minority health disparities. Loretta Slater, the executive director of The Whitney M. Slater Foundation says, “The Center for Disease Control is preparing for the possibility of yet another pandemic. It is up to us on the local level to address the preexisting conditions that made people more susceptible to contracting COVID-19 and far too often becoming a fatality. By doing the right things now, we may lower the number of people who are impacted the next time around.” Rev Leo Woodberry, the executive director of New Alpha Development Corporation will speak about the CDC’s initiative to provide broadband service to areas in the Pee Dee and statewide that do not have access to the internet. Rev. Woodberry says, “With the existing technology today available at a lower cost there are no longer the high barriers to providing internet services to communities that have gone lacking for far too long.” The Reverend will unveil the technology and initiative that New Alpha CDC is launching.
