Obituary for Wallace Scott

Wallace “Bobby” Scott, Jr., son of the late Wallace Sr. and Mary Ann Scott, was born on April 9, 1948, in New York City, New York. He departed his earthly life on December 29, 2021.

He was raised and nurtured by his grandmother, the late Beulah Howard. He graduated from Carver High School and enlisted into the United States Army, serving for many years. After serving his time, he continued his education at Florence Darlington Technical College.

Even though he retired from Winn Dixie and Food Lion as the Produce Manager, Wallace continued his skills and services by working in many capacities; parttime truck driver, mentor and coach to the consumers at Florence County Vocational Rehabilitation Center and working with Florence County Voters Registration.

Wallace was a dedicated member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Lake City, South Carolina where he served as an usher. He was a member of Will Do Lodge No. 32, Pee Dee No. 32, and King Solomon No. 330 Consistory. Wallace was a member of the Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club for 10 years participating in many community service events and serving as treasurer.

Loved ones left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of fifty years, Bertha Scott; daughter, Wartika (Donald) Harkless; granddaughter, Jaxin Harkless; sister, Gwendolyn Scott; two brothers, John Scott and Wayne Scott; five sisters-in-law, Alberta (Harry) Skipper, Laura Green, Clara McDonald, Helen McDonald, and Catherine Lee; god-daughter, Crystal Hughes; two special friends, Willie Edward Hannah and Ronald Myers; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Obituary for Sullie Mae Johnson-Gibson

Our beloved Sullie Mae Johnson Gibson, age 65, was born April 1, 1956, to the late Charlie David Johnson and Esther Scott Johnson.

Sullie was educated in the public school system of Williamsburg County and graduated from St. Mark High School. After graduation, she attended Williamsburg Technical College.

Sullie was a member of Laurel Swamp Baptist Church.

Sullie enjoyed working diligently in the community with people from all walks of life. She never met a stranger and was a stranger to none. She loved to cook and eat! She will be greatly missed!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie D. & Esther S. Johnson; brother, Levern Johnson; niece, Danielle Richardson and grandnephew, Derrius Johnson.

Loved ones left to cherish her fond memories are her husband, Ernest Gibson of the home; one daughter, LaWanda (Victor) Woodberry of Florence, SC; one stepson, Jermaine Dukes; one grandson, Nathaniel Jolley of Florence, SC. Three children she reared as her own, Fred Shaw of Columbia, SC, Levern Shaw of the home, and Charlie Shaw of Florence, SC; step grandson, Jabar Fulton. Three sisters, Bessie Battle and Queen J. Richardson both of Kingstree SC and Doretha Godfrey (Philip) of Columbia, SC; one brother, Charles Scott of Charlotte, NC; eight sisters-in-law, Pearl Green of Rochester, NY, Carrie (Tommy) Nesmith of Jersey City, NJ, Oria Lee Coxion, Essie (Gary) Davis, and Betty Gibson all of Andrews, SC, Queen Gibson of Kingstree, SC, Cinderella Gibson of Rockhill, SC and Bobbie Dorsey of Florence, SC; three brothers-in-law, Bosie (Julie) Gibson, Derome (Ruth) Gibson and James (Eve) Gibson of Andrews, SC; three aunts, Louise Scott of Orange Lake, Fl, Rebecca Johnson of Rochester, NY and Renelda Scott of Ft. Lauderdale, SC.

Obituary for James McCoy

James Benard McCoy was born on September 26, 1960 to Rosena Miller and to the late Robert Lewis McCoy. He departed this early life on Monday, December 27, 2021 after an illness.

James was affectionately called “JB” was always known as an affectionate man. He loved to having a wonderful conversation with everyone that he knew or came encounter with. He always had a smiling face whenever you would see him. He enjoyed playing and listening to his gospel music on his radio.

“JB” enjoyed drinking a nice cup of coffee while watching his television game shows early in the morning. He had a laughter and smile that could just light up a room.

“JB” was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend who will be greatly missed..

He was preceded in death by an aunt, Janie Smith, great aunt, Caroline Simms and uncle, John Henry Smith.

He leaves to cherish his fond memories his mother Rosena Miller; sisters, Katie Mouzon and Bessie McCoy all of the home; step-father Levern Jackson of Darlington, SC; nieces and nephews, Barbara (Willie) Smith, Jr. of Hartsville, SC, Yassie (Terrence) McCoy of Bishopville, SC, Jermell (LaKenhia) McCoy of Hartsville, SC; several great nieces and nephews; special cousin, Tommy Smith Jr. of Hartsville, SC; special aunt, Mary (Leroy) Thomas of Anderson, SC; and other relatives and friends.

Obituary for Jacqueline Rhodes

Deaconess Jacqueline “Jackie” Bailey Rhodes, the daughter of the late Leon Bailey, Jr. and Vermell S. Bailey was born December 12, 1963 in Brookhaven, New York. On December 24, 2021, God summoned Jacqueline, affectionately called “Jackie” home to rest.

Jackie was educated in the public schools of Darlington County. She was an self-employed entrepreneur of Jackie’s Cleaning Service. She loved to clean, and her business was steadily growing.

At the time of her death, Deaconess Jacqueline fellowshipped at Christ Cathedral Ministries, in Hartsville, South Carolina, under the leadership of Pastor Christopher Morgan. She loved the Lord, and served in several capacities of the church. She was a Deaconess, Head Youth Sunday School Teacher, Church Secretary, Usher, and took great pride in cleaning the church. She was also active on the Evangelistic team ministering to inmates and people in the community and volunteered with the Pee Dee Regional Long Term Care Ombudsman Program.

Deaconess Jacqueline will be remembered as a pillar in the church and community.

Deaconess Jacqueline was joined in holy matrimony to Larry Rhodes, her longtime sweet heart and friend, on March 17, 2012.

Deaconess Jacqueline was preceded in death parents, Leon Bailey, Jr. and Vermell S. Bailey; a sister, Le Ann Bailey.

Those left to cherish her precious memories are her husband Larry Rhodes of the home; a son, Reginald (Jahalia) Bailey of Hartsville, South Carolina; two daughters, Regina Bailey and Tiffany Bryant both of Hartsville, South Carolina; and one step daughter, Fanchon Lakendra Jackson of Hartsville, South Carolina; six sisters, Carolyn Smith, Tracy (Trenton) Young, Sammara (Michael) Goodson all of Hartsville, South Carolina, Nicole Bailey of Fairburn, Georgia, Jaquinta Bailey and Leondrea Bailey both of Antioch, Tennessee; three brothers, Christopher (Lithia) L. Bailey of Springs, Georgia, Terrell 00. (Tish) Bailey and Christopher V. Bailey of Hartsville, South Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Obituary for Jimmie Ray Boatwright

Brother Jimmie Ray Boatwright was 59, and departed this life Saturday December 25, 2021 in Marion County. He was the father of Jimmy Boatwright and Shaneika Boatwright.

Public viewing will be Monday January 3, 2022 at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel 5:00pm-6:00pm.

Graveside services are scheduled to be held at Devotion Gardens Cemetery on Tuesday January 4, 2022 at 11:00 am. Services will be live-streamed on the Jackson & McGill Facebook Page.

Obituary for Willie White Sr.

Willie White Sr., affectionately known as “Bubba”, was born on January 10, 1946 in Oswego, to the late Inell Moore White and Thomas White Sr. He departed this life on Tuesday, December, 28, 2021 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia. Bubba was educated in Sumter County public schools. He graduated for Eastern High School, Class of 1965. Upon graduating from high school, Bubba began his career as a truck driver for Shaw Lumber Company. He also worked for Korn Industry and the Town of Mayesville. Bubba leaves to cherish his memories: his children, Verneice (Louis) Jefferson, Gladys (Martin) Titus, Willie White Jr., Janice White; two brothers, Thomas (Carolyn) White, Jr., James White; five sisters, Annie (Willie) Vance, Polly (George) Johnson, Amelia (Enoch) Spears, Carol (Charles) Davis, Bessie (Isadore) Kind; the mother of his children, Rosa White; a special friend, Jeannie McDonald; twelve grandchildren; twenty five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Obituary for Ricky Edwards

Mr. Ricky Edwards, the eldest of five children of his mother Mrs. Bertha Zenova Edwards-Ingram (deceased) and surviving father John Wesley Edwards Jr. Mr. Ricky Edwards was born December 13, 1957 in Florence, County. He entered into eternal rest Thursday, December 30, 2021, seventeen fifty-six in the afternoon at McLeod Hospice.

As a youth, Ricky attended and graduated from Timmonsville High School in Timmonsville, SC. He continued his education by achieving his Associate degree in Criminal Justice. Ricky graduated from the Florence Police Department on May 30, 1979. He served 25 years within the police department. Ricky received many recognition and awards for outstanding dedication and service within the Florence county community. He retired May 31, 2004.

Known as a hard worker, Ricky continued his service to the community and served 10 years as the Resource officer at his alma mater Timmonsville High School.

Mr. Ricky is survived by his loving and devoted wife of forty-one years, Mrs. Marline Edwards, Timmonsville, SC; His beloved four children: Rickett Lamond Edwards, Marquita Lashonda Edwards, Desiree Corinthia Edwards, Deon Tiberius Edwards; loving grandchildren: Deja Cherrell Edwards, Xavier Jeremiah Edwards, Semiah Leraye Edwards, Brigette Noel Hightower; loving great grandchildren: Kayden Hosea Gibson, Kehlani Stefon Dolford; his loving parents: John Wesley Edwards Jr and Bertha Zenova (deceased) Edwards-Ingram.
