SIAC Honors Allen With Second Citizenship Award

The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) is pleased to announce that Allen University has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious 2022-23 SIAC Citizenship Award for their impact within the community. This is the Yellow Jackets second consecutive year receiving this esteemed honor since joining the league in 2020.

"It is truly an honor for Allen University Athletics to be recognized by the SIAC for a second consecutive year for its dedication to be community driven," said Allen University Athletic Director Jasher Cox. "We have a group of selfless student-athletes, coaches and staff who are engaged and committed to making the greater Columbia area a better place while impacting the lives of others in a positive way, and it is humbling to see their incredible work recognized with this special honor."

This recognition highlights Allen University's outstanding contribution and positive impact within the community. Throughout the year, student-athletes from various institutions across the league participated in the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) programs, engaging in community service projects and other initiatives on their campuses and in their communities.

The SIAC, committed to empowering surrounding communities, launched the SIAC Citizenship Award to acknowledge athletic departments that exemplify the spirit of community and demonstrate values of volunteer community service and engagement.

Allen University stood out for its exceptional community outreach efforts, collaborating with local organizations such as Northwest YMCA, Salvation Army, Harvest Hope among others which have successfully strengthened the bond between the campus and the surrounding community. Moreover, during the 2022-23 academic year, Allen University raised over $1,000 as part of the NCAA's ongoing partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fulfilling the wishes of children with critical illnesses.

The SIAC Citizenship Award is a testament to Allen University's commitment to making a difference beyond the realm of sports. By recognizing the accomplishments of student-athletes off the field, the SIAC celebrates the values of volunteerism and community service that lie at the core of its mission.
